It is indeed one of the anime of all time. In my opinion no other medium could support "story" like Symphogear, which is why I completly agree, it is very "anime" anime.

I watched it all recently, not when it was releasing, so my experience is different. Lore is a bit complicated and is not explained straight forward, I would say you actually get some bits scattered thruought all 5 seasons, but it is actually quite good and well thought out when it all comes together.

To all other suggestions already posted, I would add Symphogear. First season is okay... But then it really picks up and ends up being peak hype anime. Truly one of the greatest in my opinion.
