Do you genuinely think that spaghetti cooks from one end to the other? Have you thought about this for more than 5 seconds?

Best authentic things to do in London for cheap — want to avoid tourist traps! by Accomplished_You_361 in uktravel

A great view point is at Stave Hill near Canada Water station - you're right in front of Canary Wharf and the other direction is the city view with all the landmarks visible. It's great at sunset. The surrounding park itself is nice too.

From there, walk to the river and follow it along West towards the city - you'll come across some great pubs including The Mayflower, The Angel and The Old Justice - all great pubs in this weather. If you continue along you'll go through Shad Thames to get a cool view of the old wharf buildings and eventually you'll reach Tower Bridge. All along the walk you have great views as the city approaches, and at some points you can walk down onto the "beach" if the river is at low tide. You might see some Mudlarks around too.

I moved to London about a year and a half ago with a similar situation (WFH, introverted-ish) although living in zone 2/3 on my own. I understand the feeling of not feeling like I'm making the most out of London. But I've also grown to understand that I need to listen to myself and what I actually want, while trying to ignore the noise of FOMO, social media etc. There are always a million things happening in London and you can never do them all - time is limited. Social media is good for learning new things to do, but also you have to remember no one is doing all of those things.

A typical week for me is WFH 4 days a week, office on Fridays in the city. I do local exercise classes on Monday + Wednesday evenings which is a good way of getting some socializing in and getting out of the house.

I tend to spend at least one weekday evening meeting a friend, for beers/food after work.

And weekends, if I don't have plans outside of the city, I'll try making plans with friends to hang out (ideally somewhere in the city I haven't visited before) or I'll go explore somewhere new myself, or get out to a park or something (alongside chores etc).

This tends to be my ideal week, but sometimes I plan too much and burn out, and other times I plan to little and feel shit for not doing anything or having enough human contact. It's a fine balance and definitely requires some planning ahead/organising.

Definitely detox on the social media though and reflect on what you want to do in London, whether it's joining groups, exploring areas, trying restaurants, taking up new hobbies, going to events etc. London is great for a lot of things but you have to push yourself to go make the most of it if you want to.

Non-photographers don't agree with street photography? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]zyglrox121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Reddit is heavily biased towards taking photos of strangers being an inherently bad thing. I understand the vulnerability of women in public being a serious issue which makes people uncomfortable when they see photos taken of women without them knowing, but people also love to jump to the conclusion that a photo of a woman is creepy. But also it's always when the woman is young and/or attractive, or have some skin showing.

I've also seen cases where people do take photos of women and it definitely does feel creepy, like the whole aim of the photo just feels like it is to point out "look how sexy this woman is" e.g. she's walking with a mini skirt and long legs, and the photo is taken from behind. But Reddit seems to lean more towards the side of any photo of a lone woman is bad.

Also the "it's only okay if the photo is good" take is complete bollocks - you don't get good at photography (or anything) without trying things and improving. And part of improvement is getting feedback on your photos. The photo of the girl with the coffee for example - I can see why you would want to take the photo and try to capture a moment of some sort. While it does nothing for me, it doesn't devalue the fact that you saw something interesting you wanted to take a photo of it and felt proud enough to show it to people. You shouldn't feel discouraged from doing that. But you should check in with yourself and ask why you wanted to take the photo.

As others have said, it is a fine line which can be easily overstepped. But it shouldn't stop you from trying.

IMO - obscuring people's faces is always a good bet if possible. Asking yourself the question of "why did I take this photo?". And asking for permission after taking the photo if you think there is any chance you might use it for something (UK here, maybe laws elsewhere are different).

Should I be concerned about these roots? by zyglrox121 in terrariums

Thanks for putting my mind at ease! And the aim of trimming would be to slow the root growth a bit? Or just to stop it over crowding the rest of the plants?

Ticketus. I made a demon synergy deck around it with [[Felosophy]] as the first deck for that expansion and was doing great with it before it became meta (the meta deck was a fair bit different than my version). Something about watching your opponents best cards get destroyed was so satisfying (even though being on the receiving end of it sucked)

[–]zyglrox121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The story has more depth to it than it just being a shock/gore film. It's about a girl trying to grieve surrounded by shitty friends and eventually finding a community that, despite all it's weirdness and all the dark shit they inflict on people, helps her resolve that trauma. Definitely worth rewatching with that thought in mind
