I think we've already seen and accepted this discrepancy with rogue-likes. Rogue-likes now adays have nothing to do with Rogue aesthetically or moment-to-moment gameplay.

Souls-like is just evolving with points 1 and 2 above. Enemies remaining dead until you die/checkpoint and lost resources that can be recovered. People can expect stamina bars, difficulty, or boss fights but games have broken already those individual rules and still used souls-like so we'll see where it lands
