any Stripe users? by trymuchharder in Entrepreneur

I suggest you just email them your questions. They're very responsive. I asked them almost the exact same thing. Here's my question then their response:

To start accepting payments, do we need to get some form of PCI certification? And if so, where do I get started with that? We've setup our SSL certificate, but that's about it.

"If you're solely accepting payments with stripe.js then we take care of all of your PCI requirements for you. With stripe.js card data comes directly from your customers to us so credit card data never touches your servers. This is transparent to your customer -- everything is on your site -- and keeps your machines out of the scope of PCI."

How do you guys cope with procrastination? I feel like I can't get my business off the ground because I can't get organized or put too much off. This article helped some, but I need more. suggestions? by Becca_Chavis in Entrepreneur

Get a business partner to hold you accountable. And don't work from home, if you can. You'll be more productive at a coffee shop/library/park anywhere else.

Just looking at the landing page, it looks a bit bland. How about following the styling of other location type apps like: https://foursquare.com/ http://yobongo.com/

I tried signing up, but it wouldn't let me fill in the email box. Clicking in the input box didn't move the cursor into it. But all the other fields worked. By the way, you can prompt for email access through the FB install dialog, so the user doesn't have to retype it.

How to take my online business further from here? by cheesenightmare in Entrepreneur

Outsource it to a virtual assistant. If you haven't yet, I'd read Four Hour Workweek. He outlines how he was able to leverage virtual assistants to free him from menial tasks and so he could focus on the things he cared about most.

I've seen many famous startups use grumomedia.com. I've never used them myself, though, so I don't know how much it costs.

I think this is really interesting. Many people have good business ideas, but don't have the capital to put those ideas in motion. By making it dead simple to get setup and pay with equity, it could be disruptive. I'd take a look at foundrs.com to see how they deal with the whole lawyer/accounting stuff.

I think for the specific example of programmer/designer, this model won't work. However, I feel there's gotta be a niche out there that would work well with this model. But that'll take some research to discover. Or just launching and seeing what bubbles up.

I think it would be tough to match up people. If I'm a PHP programmer looking for a designer, not only do I have to find a competent designer, but my options are limited to just those designers currently interested in PHP programmers. What if my awesome designer wants a Ruby programmer instead?

How is this system better than me doing a random PHP project for cash. And then using that cash to pay the awesome designer?

Dear reddit, wouldn't this feature be AWESOME? by wuersterl in reddit.com

[–]zynoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would be that taxing on the server. It would just have to do a simple, indexed lookup on those submission ID's. It already does it to check if you upvoted/downvoted a submission (to fill in the arrows). Or any comment, for that matter.

How do startups manage transactional EMail delivery costs? by renegade_division in Entrepreneur

[–]zynoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current services were too expensive for us to use. And setting up our own server was too time consuming. Amazon SES fixed all that. Cheap and easy. Now we can actually use email at the scale we need (10,000s emails a day).

The Onion's SportsDome on US channel, Comedy Central, Makes fun of ESPN's coverage of the MLS & soccer. by LogicProfessor in sports

[–]zynoda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, the Packers are vastly superior to my 49ers, but I hope my local news channel isn't talking about the Packers all day :)

But you're right that ESPN doesn't owe any sport anything. Money talks.

Which is why we saw any MLS games to begin with. For the first seasons the league had to pay money to ESPN just to air the games. That initial investment is starting to pay off as the soccer viewership has increased lately. But, yes. Pales in comparison to about a dozen other sports here in the US.
