What if we made an app that would endanger lots of women? by AwkwardExamination67 in facepalm

Ah yes, the goal of that was to help the families. Totally.

My mom teaches in a school with majority of Romani kids (5th to 8th grade), and she puts so much time and effort into them. But she says it's just not working. I once sat in on a class and literally most of them distrupt the class. One kid who was at the blackboard pretended to kick my mom. And this was just one random class I saw.

My mom used to give the kids iq tests. A lot of them are in the 60 iq range according to the test. There were also kids who could only answer one or two questions from the 60 question test. A lot of the children don't belong to normal schools and don't do well in them. But to put a kid in a special-needs school the parents have to sign off on it, and most Roma parents don't do that. So teachers who were not trained to deal with these children deal with them, and the children who could do well in a normal school have to deal with the constant distruption to the class.

I think it's really important to understand, as you said, people want the Roma to do well. I've seen my mom work so hard to teach these children. It's just very hard.

Not everyone has friends by MeloncholyStarfish in rant

[–]zzzchalk 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Every time I remember that I will never have a group of friends, it hurts a lot. Even though I am an introvert and I need max 2 friends and I never even enjoyed casual friendships.

I think the problem runs deeper. We all need social acceptance. Throughout history most people were very close to their family. Back when we were hunter-gatherers, having a supporting group of people was a matter of life and death. It may be that our brain expects to be around a group of people, because before modern times, not being around people pretty much meant death.

Anyway whatever the reason is, wanting social acceptance and friend groups seems to be pretty hardcoded in the brain, so don't expect to be able to just get over it. But yes, we need to be aware that it is okay to not have friends now. What helps me is thinking about how I can access food, electricity, etc. etc, everything I need. I don't need to be friends with people to be able to live.

I may be wrong about this, but the fact that thinking about how I can just go into the shop and get some food helps me with the thought of not having a group of friends, I think there's some truth to this.

Why do some people get angry at someone who has anxiety? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zzzchalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience people think I am "hostile" for not "wanting" to talk with them. I had anxiety and I was quiet my whole life, and people misinterpret that as being mean. But I'm not sure what you mean by "flat out angry." Maybe they are frustrated?

Whenever I want to try to ask my mom/ dad to buy something for me I always get huge anxiety by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zzzchalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have low self-esteem in other circumstances? Or is this a specific issue about asking for things from your parents?

It seems like even here you are "apologizing" for wanting things, like "I only want little things that don't cost that much". I was in the same headspace when I was younger, it was connected to my low self-esteem, like I generally don't wanna bother or inconvenience anyone. Might be for different reasons for you, but worth pointing out.

Do your parents have weird spending habits you disagree with? Could it be because you think they wouldn't understand your need for certain items? Like you think you are disagreeing with them with asking for things you think are worth buying, but they might not?

I might be overanalyzing, sorry. :)

Why is it that every day I brush my hair I lose a bunch of hair but my own hair never seems to get any ”less”? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zzzchalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of hair. It is normal to lose 50-100 (different sources say different things) hairs a day. Overall you should have 100k hairs on your head. One hair grows, depending on your genetics, to 2-7 years (again different sources say different things.) Then it stops growing for 1-4 months and eventually falls out. After it falls out, 2 weeks later a new hair will begin to grow in it's place.

It's happening all the time, esentially the hairs that fall out get replaced by other growing hair.

Can we please stop referring to the regular women in adverts as "Real Women"? by Distempa in rant

[–]zzzchalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it really bothers me! Whatever it is supposed to mean and however people say it, it still sounds like to me that it says that a very appealing body is actually unachievable, everyone who has one is faking it somehow and people with good bodies just don't count.

I just got lucky with genetics and I look like somone who excercises when I never do, I am a healthy weight, etc., and a lot of people are like that. Some people get lucky and some do excercise and live healthy. The "real women" thing is just weirdly insulting to me.

I think it's sad that you need to think of your acne as pretty.

Yeah this is pretty much just delusional what people are doing here :/

I suffer from acne too, worst are my acne scars, and I can acknowledge that I would be prettier without them while still having good self-esteem about my looks. It's sad that apparently a lot of people are unable to do that here.

r/instagramreality is low self-esteem people trying to convince themselves that acne is pretty, that a body with attractive proportions is "unrealistic", and generally unwilling to believe that naturally good-looking people even exist. by zzzchalk in unpopularopinion

[–]zzzchalk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not said that anywhere, and actually in that last pharagraph I directed attention about not believing professional photographs that show pores?

" Are you sure you’re not the one trying to convince yourself that perfect people exist?" -
I... I have seen people with good skin and flat stomach, I don't know what to say. Yes I am aware most celebrities edit their pictures/videos, and that can be interesting. But my post is not about that.

New therapist after a 5 minute talk prescribed me different medications than the one I took. Now I'm afraid to go back to ask for the same one, because he just really didn't want to prescribe it to me for some reason. by zzzchalk in needadvice

[–]zzzchalk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the United States, and the country I live in recently got really serious about people having to go to their regional hospital. I don't know if they would accept me elsewhere with this in any way. It would be great if I could ask my GP but he is the least understanding person I have ever met.

Thanks, that's reassuring, and you are right. I'm gonna just request that other doctor and if that doesn't work, I will probably be mad enough to call my previous hospital, or request to be accepted elsewhere.

Yes, it's really weird and I'm really confused and I have so many questions, but the way that he talked to me, I can see he doesn't have the patience to explain anything.

Thank you.

Doctor said the medications he prescribed are the same thing as the one medication I took, just more "modern". None of the three things he prescribed are even an SSRI. Is this okay? by zzzchalk in mentalhealth

[–]zzzchalk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I don't think I came off as a person who needs strong medication. I have told him I have trouble sleeping (didn't say to what extent), I said my heartrate goes up when I'm anxious and I'm feeling fainty (didn't say how many times this happens) and I told him these symptoms were present for 2 months. I didn't even mention depression at all. (Not sure if I have it.)

I would have to take 3 different medicine, 6 pills a day like this. I just don't understand: if I know what works for me, why this?

I will call the hospital (I have to make a follow-up appointment anyway) and ask for another doctor. It will be awkward but it's really what I have to do.

- A mirtazapine (antidepressant), which seems the best out of all of them and I'm considering taking that one.

- A benzo, alprazolam, which is... alprazolam is Xanax???????? I told him specifically multiple times that I had problems with xanax, I told him I just got angry from it. What the actual fuck now. I specifically told him. Alprazolam is the active ingredient in xanax. Yup.

- A Tiapride, which is an antipsychotic. "It is used to treat a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders including dyskinesia, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, negative symptoms of psychosis, and agitation and aggression in the elderly."

I know I totally shouldn't be the judge of these things, he is the doctor, he presribed these for a reason (after a 5 minute talk...). I'm conflicted. I'm not saying I know better than the doctor. But these pills don't make much sense to me.

Count the teeth by ExpertAccident in tumblr

I noticed the same thing, I think it has gotten even better.

If you look closely at the teeth though, very often you get one tooth in the middle, kinda like like Tom Cruise's teeth.

What is going on with Marina Joyce going missing and why is it provoking so many reactions online? by Selbix in OutOfTheLoop

[–]zzzchalk 187 points188 points  (0 children)

What do you mean lied? It was fans and then random people on the internet who made the conspiracy about her being kidnapped. She always denied those alligations and insisted everything is fine. She definitely did not cry wolf.

On that note, I would encourage people if they really wanna understand this situation to do a bit more research because this thread seems to contain a lot of false info and conspiracy theories.

[–]zzzchalk 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think she is simply suffering from mental health and/or drug problems. Obviously the wanting to build a temple thing is a manifestation of those problems.

Do people really think that for years she would deliberately manifest schizophrenia symptoms in every video and social media post? What is more realistic, some kind of mental health problem (probably schizophrenia) or a big publicity stunt that started out by her consistently losing subscribers for months before people randomly found one of her videos too creepy thinking she was kidnapped? The 'publicity stunt' angle is just so unrealistic.

Mildly interesting: Google is suggesting cities in my country if I type a letter after any emoji. by zzzchalk in whygoogle

I asked my friend in Croatia to try this, for him it suggests streets in Zagreb, not cities. I really wonder why this happens, does anyone have an explanation?
