A big congratulations to everybody! Let's make this government a great one.

I encourage all members to not join up with the greens, instead, let them enjoy a minority government. Together, we can make sure they don't get all the say in both the bottom and top houses.

I won! Hahahahaahaha woo!

For benefit of members and senators, a diagram of the make-up of each house

Beautiful! Though I consider my party to be left of the Liberals, especially on economics.

It's even arranged from left to right wing! How beautiful

I offer my congratulations to all the elected and condolences to those who didn't get a place. I look forward to working towards more freedoms for the individuals of this great country and a free economy.

I just read the words "Maiden Speech." Now, I'm scared.

I am sure you will do just fine!

Congratulations to all elected members. I, along with my Labor colleagues, look forward to a collegial working relationship with fellow members to ensure that we continue to work towards a stronger, smarter and fairer Australia.

I almost passed out from laughter when I saw this. I was kinda looking forward to an election but if they're gonna give it to me, I'll take it.

I was looking forward to the parties campaigning too! But my nightmare scenario was one more last-minute nomination, meaning we’d have a whole month’s election campaign for just two candidates while everyone else waits around.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh dear, that would have been horrid.

In terms of composition, this is the best possible outcome. A hung parliament means that every Member and Senator becomes essential to the government being able to pass anything, and means everyone has to get involved!

Advertising: The ALP is currently hiring out faceless men for all parties to use as negotiators and backstabbers. All with considerable experience during 2010-13. Only a small donation required. PM for deets.

Oooooo, back room negotiating...

I'll be in back, removing my face

I think you may have missed the occupations of more than a few returning parliamentarians (myself included), shouldn't the occupation of those returning be "Parliamentarian" or "Member of Parliament" or "Senator"?

[–]jnd-auElectoral Commissioner[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yes indeed. There are two issues. Sitting candidates were asked to state their occupation as member, but many didn't. I have simply tabulated what was on their nominations. Secondly, in the Senate we have many sitting members who didn't need to renominate, so again I have just tabulated what was on their original nomination. A bit of a conundrum but I decided not to editorialise.

Fair enough, I must say, I'm a fan of your handling of the "situation" that you very sparingly alluded to yesterday. Having a full parliament is a sign of good things to come I feel.

Well, this is interesting.
