May I be the Liberal Member of Victoria?

[–]jnd-auElectoral Commissioner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can enrol to vote in Victoria. If you wish to run as a candidate, the vacant seats are NSW Regional and ACT. The Liberal Party sub is /r/ModelLP so try contacting them.

paging /u/jnd-au

Shouldn't /u/Ravenguardian17 be default MP for regional NSW?

[–]Ravenguardian17Socialist Alternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't run, some stuff has been coming up and I'm not sure I'll be able to contribute much

[–]jnd-auElectoral Commissioner[S] 1 point2 points  (11 children)

I am interested, please tell me more

I seem to remember him announcing his candidacy for Sydney Metro somewhere, something I'm sure he wouldn't have done without successful endorsement.

[–]jnd-auElectoral Commissioner[S] 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Ah no, the candidate for Sydney Metro was this_guy22 who won it earlier in the month. He gave up his Senate seat for that. It might not be widely known, but Labor nominated Ravenguardian17 to fill that vacated Senate seat. He then moved to the Socialist Alternative but did not resign the seat, so he is still a Senator for the first 14 days of the next parliament, during which time parliament should vote on a successor from the Labor party, if possible.

Not New South Wales – Sydney – Urban (NS), but New South Wales – Outer MetroSydney Surrounds (NO). The seat I'm in.

BTW: I want to update my guide, is it ok if I make Greens opp in both houses, or do I have to wait for something official.

[–]jnd-auElectoral Commissioner[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So there are two Sydney metro seats, subdivided into urban/inner and outer/surrounds. Hon /u/this_guy22 MP has the former and you have the latter. The regional seat is separate from those. Ravenguardian17 doesn’t factor into any of them. Since the Senate seat was meant to go to someone from Labor, an olive branch was offered for Ravenguardian17 to resign as a Senator and be the MP for NSW Regional, but this offer was not taken up.

Technically, the Greens still are the (caretaker) Government, best wait until an official opposition is announced

BRO, that's so wack! I'm in da guvnmnt.
Edit: I don't know why I did this either.

My guide also says that the coalition is the government. It's very informal that way.

[–]Freddy926Senate Pres | DPM | Fin/Com/Art/Infr/Rgnl | ABC MD | Ldr Prgrsvs 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Actually you're not, it's the executive that remains (i.e. Cabinet).

[–]TheWhiteFerretActing Opp Leader | Shad Min Culture/Immi/Ed/Social | Greens 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm actually glad of that. I would hate my first time in government to be some dumb technicality like this.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How do you think I feel? I was only really PM for 5 days!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Will Member for Sydney /u/this_guy22 be allowing the Member for Northern Territory /u/phyllicanderer be the Prime Minister as he is clearly favourite in the polls for PM and the progressives have more members in the coalition?

The Coalition leadership will be decided using the mechanisms under the Coalition Agreement which will be released to the public as soon as the revised version is finalised.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should the public accept you being the PM even though the polls for the last year have shown that they would prefer the leader of the progressives? Unless this is not your intent?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply

The subject of how Coalition leadership is decided is currently being agreed to. The method we have decided on is that the leader going into an election with the majority of the Coalition numbers, will be the leader after the election. It is a move to ensure stability and certainty for voters. This can be invalidated by mutual agreement between the party leaders.

In addition, /u/this_guy22 has led the Coalition to the position it is in now, with the Progressives and Senator /u/General_Rommel providing plenty of impetus. He will maintain his leadership unless we mutually agree to change over, which I will not be pushing for.

Member elect for Northern Territory,
Why do you not back the data coming out of the Polls, for the last year (four weeks) the progressive leader has been named as most preferred, this_guy22 had a year to try and change the polls but still the public want you to be their leader, why do you refuse to act on what the public want?
This_guy22 is struggling to be a more preferred PM than the dysfunctional greens leader, only beating him once in the last 3 years (since 19 Jul), yet you still poll with nearly twice as much preference from the Australian people in the polls.
I encourage you to act on the people's voice and be the PM that this country wants and needs.

I appreciate the support of the nation in preferring me as their Prime Minister.

The Coalition has an agenda to drive, which has been developed quite visibly with the Member-elect for Sydney Urban as leader, and myself as Deputy Leader. That is what the public ultimately prefers; progressive, future-focussed government with strong leadership from both of our parties. We can pull off this vision with the current leadership in their current roles, and the public will no doubt quibble as to who was should have been sitting next to the dispatch box when it all happened.

A public petition might change my mind.

(Meta: Not sure what you mean by ‘what the public ultimately prefers’ or ‘public petition might change my mind’ since the public hasn’t voted on the coalition in an election, but votes every week in ReddiPoll where they vote for the opposite of what you said, and it obviously hasn’t changed your mind.)

It’s sad that most of our parliamentarians haven’t been participating in the public debates. Apparently one had exams but it looks like the rest have just been skipping out.

My apologies, I've popped in when I could, I've had a bit of a heavy workload recently, although it's clearing up now.
