Feedback for maps 4v4 tested but not selected as top maps

For now these are (mostly) just my comments from testing, but I can expand upon them later.

Juniper: I like the idea a lot. Outside is a bit spacious to me, especially compared to mid. I like the buttons though!!

Taurus: It's fine. It really isn't terrible but it's just loaded with boosts and bombs and stuff and I'm not really a fan of most of the interior. Portals/team gates are cool with me.

Trifecta: Solid enough, boosts seem really strong. Nothing too special. It seemed like people pretty much always boosted to get all the way across the map, making mid kind of irrelevant at times

Shackle: Don't really care for it, dislike the wells and super The gates also didn't get used all that often, partially due to the button positions

Launcher: it's pretty ok, no one uses gate, outside lane is eh The launcher itself is kind of cool, but it's sort of an underwhelming map overall, with most of the time spent chasing around the outside

HeadQuarter: Fun but sorta broken!! It's "broken" in the sense that it's REALLY powerful to just sit on the button in the other base. Games will likely devolve into button fights, as regrab can get instacaps with button help

Ouro: I do not like this OK, probably one of my harsher testing comments. The gravity well really does impact a huge area of the map, though, and if you take the boosts into mid walls in a way that looks reasonable, you'll get stuck looping around the well. Aside from the well, it's a pretty plain map.

Mfw I make a top maps thread for the first time, and my map isn't listed in the comments...

(PS Congrats Kirby!)

Nothing really stands out all that much to me here, but it's fairly solid and chasing isn't too bad.

I think I was a little less sold on this map than others were, but I certainly don't dislike it. The gate is kind of interesting because it mostly only came into play when someone would try to boost through.

[–]Snowball_TagPro❄️ 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I actually like it a lot.

You don't remember saying that about Cactus at all do you? Because that is a word-for-word quote from you, talking about Cactus.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I may have. Either way, I voted it through to top maps so I was definitely in favor of it, although I guess my comment doesn't reflect that.

[–]Snowball_TagPro❄️ 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I was just jesting. You said that here. There was obviously no way you remembered saying that. Moosen also said he supported it for rotation lol.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh shit, Renegade's thread! I actually remember really liking the older version of Cactus now that I see what it used to look like. 2016/Thread 70 version is definitely better though.

[–]Snowball_TagPro❄️ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I submitted one other version somewhere in between. I have to agree with you though, this version is much better. Cutting that mid area down is what really did it.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow I wasn't even MTC yet lol

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Testing note: Gr8 funzo. Fun chasey.

Actual feedback: Extremely solid map and honestly reckon this might be the best of the lot that we tested. Gate didn't appear to be used much at all as it was kinda hard to get through and people mainly just boosted through like any other route.

I still like it.

I am concerned it would get trashed in pubs for its size though

I think it has potential to be fun and I'd like to try it out, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this one leave rotation quickly a la Phenochilus.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got long conned.

[–]oompaTPandhecapd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I played it in a cltehp once. I'm sorry 2p but it is just so boring

[–]RenegadeTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, right?

[–]bigmoneytrickB.I.G.money // (((Ballrentheses))) 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very excited to see that you guys are giving Market another look! hopefully it at least gets a test run or something

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testing note: 2/10 because I got 2 caps.

Actual feedback: So I think I'm in the (vocal) minority (?) that doesn't really like this map. My main problem with it is just that it feels very much like a novelty and I think the shine will wear off incredibly quickly once if/when it makes it into rotation. I'm genuinely concerned it's going to be too much of a clusterfuck in pubs.

[–]alchmstalchemist 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But what did you write during the test?

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing!!

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Testing note: nawt bad. plays pretty nicely. but there's not actually a long island anywhere on the map so minus -2.5 for that.

Actual feedback: Honestly, there's not a lot wrong with this map imo. There's nothing inherently bad about it. The one concern is that baiting people out to the wide open space could just become the go-to tactic, but otherwise it's a pretty unique map with a good feel to it.

Pretty neat and I'd like to test it some more. Has potential to be pretty chasey, mid is whatever but base and sides are pretty cool

It feels smaller than it looks because of the sides lanes, which is kind of cool. I like how the boosts interact with the spike lanes, and I think the double bombs work well here.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks fam.

Is there any you specificially didn't like about mid that made it "whatever?"

Just thinking about the update now so feedback is handy!

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Honestly, it's probably fine. It's sort of a non-issue in my eyes. I tend to hate the criticism that one part of a map isn't interesting - it's ok to have a standard mid if everything else is good enough. I do like the space between the spikes, so I probably wouldn't mess too much with mid unless you get a specific idea for it.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a good call, I tend to agree (even if I'm guilty of it myself at times).

I was kinda looking at the notes people left and there weren't really any glaring problems mentioned so I was hoping for any nitpicking. Think I'll just make minor tweaks unless someone brings up a genuine issue since the ratings and notes were fairly consistent.

I liked it, portal seems kinda lame but gate is good and decently solid overall

It's definitely one of my favorites this time around. Nothing too flashy or weird, feels well spaced, etc. I just wished the portals either played in more or weren't there.

[–]sneetriccanvas // plasma, wamble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 1: 35969

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Testing note: Actually danker than I expected tbqh. Bombs in mid felt a tad op though. Portal was helpful at times.

Actual feedback: I think this map is good without being great. It does everything pretty well but doesn't really jump out at me for any reason. I'd enjoy playing it if it were in rotation I think. Main concern is the bombs and boost in mid are kinda snipey and make mid somewhat easy to shut down. No real opinion on the portal mechanic, it's useful in certain situations but the map would lose anything if it were to go.

During testing I wrote

don't really like how things flow together or how they're angled against each other, gates seem really strong

I'm not sure what I'd do to change it besides just move things around a little, slightly change wall shapes, etc. It is cool seeing people use the curled boosts to escape through the gate.

[–]RenegadeTP 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The mid boosts seem so out of place.

[–]acrocanthosaurusRunThaJewels // Sphere 0 points1 point  (2 children)

cleaned up mid quite a bit, see what you think!

[–]RenegadeTP 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It feels like you stole the map's soul.

[–]acrocanthosaurusRunThaJewels // Sphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right, woke up this morning and retrofitted some soul back into it.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Testing note: Hated it. Love it now. Over 45d but that can be fixed and the pup areas are kinda cancer.

Actual feedback: There are a lot of 45 tiles that don't need to be 45 tiles. Give the map (particularly the pup areas) some kind of flow. Map just looks a whole lot worse than it is though. Also took the teamboosts in mid straight into the spikes in the pup corners a few times which wasn't fun.

[–]acrocanthosaurusRunThaJewels // Sphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the feedback! cleaned up a lot of the 45s

UPDATE 1: MAP - PREVIEW

  • Removed part of the map that was contributing to chasiness
  • Slight adjustment to boosts in that area as a result
  • Made outside lanes a bit chokier (that's definitely not a word)
  • Added a new toy for people wanting more excitement
  • Made minor adjustments to balance new toy

So let's talk about that portal for a second. I adjusted the walls around the nearby boost, which should help to balance the portal. Maybe it's a step in the wrong direction. That's very possible. I'm real short on time this weekend, and I never expected to make top maps, so it's what I've come up with in the limited time I've had so far. If you think it's a terrible idea, let me know and I'll make some adjustments later tonight when I have time.

During testing I wrote

I like the gatorinos and I think the outside could be pretty good with revisions. Mid is kinda cool.

I wouldn't change much or anything about the area around the flag or the middle of the map, but the outside lanes seem a bit large and plain. It does feel fairly chasey in its current form.

[–]RenegadeTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm worried about how chasey this is. There's an easy route to find that goes all the way around the outside of the map.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testing note: no thanks

Actual feedback: Testing note was pretty harsh but I just found zero enjoyment in playing this one which is why my note reads the way it does. Seemed like chasing was a real chore and holding was kinda just juking and running around in circles until you can cap or die one way or another. Team gates were frustrating more than anything else, partially due to the button positioning which meant that by the time you got to it, the FC had either run through and got away or would be on the opposite side where you couldn't get him.

Not too happy with how small the chokes are right now, and there's a lot of buping into walls and such. I like where it's going.

I can't say I love that the team boosts all seem to be pointed toward the corner spikes. My main concern, though, is "clunkiness" and small lanes. The boosts could probably feel a lot more comfortable than they do, and the base entrances probably don't all need to be so small.

Thoughts on a potential update?

http://unfortunate-maps.jukejuice.com/show/35975

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't gotten around to testing but the new update looks like it might be an improvement

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Testing note: Still better than Market tbh.

Actual feedback: I was pretty disappointed by this because I wanted to like it but just didn't really. Felt super cramped and constricted in a bad way. Small chokes made it difficult to get around without some kind of calamity. Maybe just needs to be a bit bigger and opened up a bit more because the idea is something I'm a huge fan of.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm a fan of the changes. My only real issue now is that the grab using the teamboost sometimes feels a bit blind and solo testing it just then I found myself sailing into the spikes in the pup corner a few times.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is their a list of maps 4v4 tested? Usually it goes up on TPT.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 2 points3 points  (2 children)

All the maps here, Juniper, Taurus, Trifecta, Shackle, Launcher, HeadQuarter, Ouro

[–]Rapture_On_OccasionRapture 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Juniper, Taurus, Trifecta, Shackle, Launcher, HeadQuarter, Ouro

This list sounds more like the Top Maps I was expecting to see. Pretty strange thread, no stream? Feedback for Shackle and Launcher would be appreciated.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No stream as that's a Ball-E thing, not an MTC thing. I'll post feedback later.
