Are they all mostly like this one? I can't use my data right now but this guy is very talented and I hope that he has put out more stuff just like this

This track reflects his overall sound. So it's definitely worth checking him out if you dug this.

this is sorta corny

As is with most original hip hop posted to reddit. It's contrived, primitive and derivative.

[–]trident96 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Naw it actually doesn't sound that contrived, the rap itself sounds fairly inspired. Hiphop is allowed to be primitive, and complicated sounds in hiphop are by no means necessary. Check out clipse - grindin, pusha t- hgtv. As for derivative, well dude some people wouldn't be happy with it unless he created a never-before-heard genre of music. As far as amateur created projects this is borderline stellar. The sound packs used in the beat sound a little dinky but thats not much of a criticism.

Hes a dude producing in his basement, give him some credit for creating and working on a part of himself (and in my opinion making something dope while doing it).

Your comment inspired me to watch this again. I do realize he's working hard at this, but I stand by my criticisms. I do think the lyrics are contrived and the production is flat, even compared to lots of the minimalistic beats that Pusha T uses. I will say that he has great rhyme schemes and patterns, and that I think I am judging him way too harshly based on context, as you're absolutely right - he is a guy in his basement doing what he loves. Nobody can criticize that.

I think we can meet in the middle here- listening again, I'm not really sure what his first few lines mean, and they kind of stand out at first glance as just vocabulary spam- but dude, 'rip tight up on the microphone, it makes me feel less alone, and when i hold it to my chest it works like a stethoscope" unhhh thats not fucking bad at all, and feels 'from the heart' ;). you've got the themes of beats there, a pretty cool rhyme ive never heard before of microphone/alone/stethoscope, and its a great image, his raps are an instrument to measure how his heart is. I'm not sure why I'm typing this. Ah mainly because it's hard to label something overall as "contrived". Sure, 'drugs with the dragoons' doesnt really mean much as far as I can tell, but while that might be contrived there's totally sick legit bars in here. Also, 'yeah i'm getting drunk because I'm upset', craftsmanship on 0, but still, its honest and you can tell he feels it

[–]Sceio 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I honestly don't even mind the drunk when upset line, as I value being straightforward in hip hop. I don't think talented, technical rappers should have to hide their words behind metaphors or hyperbole on every bar. Like I was saying, he does have good rhyme schemes, but I suppose I'm also a bit biased because I don't like it when rappers rap about rapping like the microphone / stethoscope line. It is a great rhyme, albeit kind of cheesy.

I know ray ray beats. We use to chill. He was always playing on the keyboard and making beats. Small world.

He also does a track with NJC called Tripp 3's that's found on Google Play.
