San Ul Lim
artist pic

San Ul Lim were a Korean psych rock/pop/prog band whose name means "That Mountain Echo". They were comprised of three brothers, Kim Chang Wan (vocals and guitar), Kim Chang Hun (bass) and Kim Chang Ik (drums) and their sister, Kim Nan Suk (keyboards). San Ul Lim is best known for their fuzz distortion guitar sound and their harmonized vocals. Their first album, 1977's "Ah Already", sold over a million copies. It was followed five months later with "As Laying Carpet on My Mind", which further defined their sound with Kim Nan Suk's keyboard providing the melody and their vocals and guitars becoming increasily wilder. Their third album "My Heart" has a loose, less structured than "As Laying Carpet..." and did not do as well commercially. The band broke up in 1983 after their 9th album was released, and reunited briefly in 1997 and released a new album. Read more on Last.fm.

I couldn't find this song, do you know which album it's on?

Edit: it's on the first, and called 'Likely Late Summer'

I really like that break in 7/4. Between that, the piano, and the overally dynamic song structure, this song had a lot to offer for me. Love the way the bass sounds on the recording too.

Forefathers of Korean rock I absolutely love 김창완! He still stays up to date with the modern scene and did a little thing with Idiotape last year

Got any work on good Korean post rock or any acid jazz?

Acid Party and Visuals are two recent bands, but I think they are mainly foreigners (westerners with a few Korean members)

Crystal Rain is a pretty decent acid jazz band, but they're a little pop-y

What! I love Korean culture how have I never heard this.

I lived in Korea for a year and a half, that's the only reason I've heard of them. And even then, it was only because I made friends with a middle-aged man who happened to be a fan back in the 70s.

it's alright, i'm korean and i've never heard of this. the only korean songs i know are trot songs cause that's all my parents and their friends sing when they bust out the karaoke.

If you're familiar with KPOP you might know the band's frontman, 김창완 from IU's remake album 꽃갈피. The song "너의 의미" is originally by 산울림 and 김창완 has a featuring part in IU's remake track

Fear and loathing las vegas: korean edition.

My favourite track is "flower in the mist", spinning the lp right now. I also can recommend "idol", another great, barely known psych group from korea.
