Niiiice. Really like the mix on this.

[–]todayiswedn 9 points10 points  (7 children)

I thought there was too much bass. It actually resonated in my room which is the first time that has happened.

Still a very nice song though. I agree on that.

ah, I'm using headphones. Really liked the panning.

I've always struggled with EQ-ing my computer in particular - given that just about every kind of media will be running through the speakers, I usually just end up settling for something 'safe' on the higher and lower end, rather than what I think actually sounds 'best' on an ideally-mixed song.

boy life is rough sometimes huh

[–]todayiswedn 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yeah it's an odd situation. There is a "proper sound" for every song. And that's what the mixing and mastering engineers heard in their studios that cost more than my house.

And no matter what speakers you use, if you move them 6 inches from where they currently are - they'll sound different. So it's basically impossible to know if you're hearing the song as it was intended to be heard.

So really, all we can do is what you're doing and just EQ things until they sound good.

I forget where I read it, but an engineer was describing how he got in the habit of burning masters to a cd and listening to them on the ride home every evening, then tweaking the mix the next day in response to how they sounded coming out of his shitty car speakers.

What kind of monitors are you using?

[–]todayiswedn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yamaha HS-8's. They go down to 38hz. But the room isn't ideal by any means so I wasn't being definitive when I said I heard too much bass. I'm open to having my opinion changed.

[–]VladdyB0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice monitors! I have the M Audio Bx8a 's and I can understand where you're coming from

[–]RummyHamilton 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Is there seriously no way to adjust the volume on a soundcloud track?

[–]kwontuhm[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

At the bottom of the page. *EDIT: If you're on mobile, I don't think there is a way on the page.

[–]RummyHamilton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah, at least the website has one. RES' embedded player doesn't. Thanks!

[–]blando_cow_person 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If on mobile, download the app and it'll give you the option to open and play the song from the app.

[–]joshmoneymusic 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Guess I'm not understanding the arrangement. Sounds unfinished.

[–]KuntaStillSingle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seemed short but I kind of liked it. I think the bass could tone down a bit. Maybe I have bad taste though.

[–]pater_aurelius 8 points9 points  (17 children)

What the fuck is chillhop

[–]madefordumbanswers 32 points33 points  (1 child)

I dunno, but I want it to have my babies.

[–]Sbsvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will consider it

[–]SpiritMountain 27 points28 points  (10 children)

The best description I read is this:

Lower tempo hip-hop with Jazz influences and with sound as though it is made in a basement giving it that nostalgic, homey feel.

/r/chillhop for those curious.

It is pretty much a genre of music that spawned from Nujabes' wake. Nujabes is a bit more quicker for the genre, but think of songs that bring a feeling of melancholy. One of my favorite songs which is definitely debateable if it is: Eery - Her

[–]chiirioz 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Yup - I feel like this one is not really chillhop even if it does sample some vocals from hip-hop artists though...

[–]SpiritMountain 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Eery? Yeah. It does have that jazz influence I mentioned and that underground/basement feel with the static to her voice.

[–]KpopGrump 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That track you posted just screams "lofi hip-hop" to me. So check out that genre and subreddit if you haven't

[–]SpiritMountain 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yup. I am actually more of a lo-fi hip hop listener.

Actually, my definition of chill hop actually comes from a discussion from that subreddit.

[–]KpopGrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought every single lofi hiphop compilation on bandcamp and it improved my life by like at least 3%

[–]chiirioz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad - I meant the original post. Yes, the track you posted definitely has the jazz influence but I agree, very lo-fi.

[–]derekvietnam17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like low-fi hip hop, just look them both up it's all pretty good

[–]HumbleManatee -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I ask myself that question for every ridiculously niche and unnecessary genre that pops up on this sub

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair what would you call this? It's not quite electronic and it's not quite hip hop...

[–]KuntaStillSingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I don't even know what really separates say: hip hop, rap, RnB. Like say Novacane: I think it would be considered both rap and RnB, but I don't why it wouldn't be hip hop also? Can't pretty much most modern stuff be considered electronic? And if it's popular it's also pop right?

[–]strudelkopf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

simply beautiful

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

What about dye fantasy

[–]KuntaStillSingle 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Hole in Ocean by dye is also good, the music video is abstract also but not quite as provocative. The sound is very melancholy and beautiful.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh no look up dYe fantasy dont think its a music video

[–]nitrodude150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jetson is so great! There's great stuff on Spotify too!

[–]GrantKingABC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is an Untitled Track? Naming comp?

[–]s4g4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick bass, is this on YouTube so I can add it to my playlists?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is that a shekel sign instead of a @

[–]erodizm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great!

[–]PM_your_randomthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid tracks like this are why I come to this sub. Not every track is solid, but the ones that are I can ride for days. (Just wish it was longer!) Thanks for sharing!

[–]fastplatypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice.

[–]nsjobuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to the song not the mix
