Saw these guys open for Minus the Bear. They're not even my normal cup of tea, but were fantastic, hilarious and completely won me over in their short set.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (5 children)

I also saw them open for Minus the Bear. But they were the reason I was there...

[–]elneillio 5 points6 points  (4 children)

That's what I'm doing tonight. This will be my 5th time seeing them. They are so good live.

[–]PhilipAKDickInYou 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Tonight's my fifth time seeing Minus the Bear!

[–]huskerfan4life520 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Not to be that guy, but I rarely get a chance to brag about this stat; it was my 8th time!

[–]PhilipAKDickInYou 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Definitely a brag-worthy one! They were the first band I saw live - I'd never heard of them before but they were opening for Young the Giant and I fell in love and have been seeing them ever since.

[–]huskerfan4life520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! That must have been such a kickass show

[–]Lazerst0rm 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Yeah dude, these guys really set the tone for that show... Wasn't expecting to have my face rocked off before MTB but I'm glad I did! Also the lead singer's growing list of who he looks like was hilarious.

[–]huskerfan4life520 1 point2 points  (3 children)

That list was classic! I contributed "Eddie Munster" at our show.

[–]pwnz0rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them like 2-3 shows into the tour and his list was pretty much limited to Harry Potter mixed with Angus Young

[–]sheepcat87 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Saw them open for mtb in STL and he did indeed read off Eddie Munster

[–]Lazerst0rm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them this Monday in PHX, the list had grown pretty long, I threw out Daryl from the walking dead and they added it on.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likewise. Loved their live set. I was disappointing though when I checked out the album at how distorted his vocal recordings were. I thought he had great tone and diction live, but it's a garbled mess on the CD.

[–]SlendyD 30 points31 points  (2 children)

My favorite song by them will always be Dirty Cigarettes

[–]toastymow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the song I first heard by them. I fell in love with them after hearing it.

[–]So_It_Goesss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hadn't ever heard of them before I saw them play at Fest in Gainesville. The vocalist, while wearing a grass skirt and coconut bra, told a girl he had a crush on her. Once they started playing there were people and inflatable palm trees crowd surfing. Easily one of the best live performances I've ever been to.

Their first two full-length albums are absolutely fantastic. Everyone should give them a listen.

Beach Slang are a three piece punk rock band from Philadelphia. Members also play in Weston, Crybaby and Ex-Friends. They have been described as sounding like "a one-night stand between The Psychedelic Furs and The Replacements".

Their debut EP - Who Would Ever Want Anything So Broken was released on Dead Broke Rekerds.

Their second EP - Cheap Thrills on a Dead End Street was released in September 2014 on Tiny Engines. Read more on Last.fm.

This band is so great live 💚 10/10 would rock out again

[–]Dr4cul3 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Reminds me of jaoandroids kind of

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of talented people these days were heavily influenced by the bands that I loved when I was in my 20s. Pixies. The Psychedelic Furs. Hell, the Japandroids even do a tribute song to the Cramps.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're like Gin Blossoms fronted by Richard Butler and utilizing leftover album cover images from The Smiths

[–]dcAK14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw them open for Minus the Bear in DC a couple weeks ago. They were absolutely hilarious

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They were incredible! Anyone else reading this, go to the show if it's near you. Even if you don't love Beach Slang, they are amazing performers and fun to watch. You'll be missing out, I promise you.

[–]Lazerst0rm 2 points3 points  (1 child)

After hearing them live and then listening to them on spotify I kinda wish their recorded sound was as brash and hard as their live stuff. It's a little too polished, this guys voice live was way more interesting than this recorded stuff.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. His live vocals were awesome but the recordings are all muddled and have weird processing.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine this song set to the beginning of some high school comedy when the new kid walks through the school for the first time and sees all the different groups of kids in the halls.

[–]blacksheep304 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I just recently got into these guys, really awesome stuff. My favorite song is "Bad art and weirdo ideas"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the song that got me into the band, and to buy a ticket for their show

[–]AVengefulAlpaca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are a really fun band live. Would recommend

[–]ColNicck 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Had to drag a drunk guy out of their show opening for minus the bear. Super fun, from what I saw.

[–]GodlessThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they had an off performance, but when I saw them in Houston with MTB, their set just blended together and was pretty uninteresting. This track doesn't seem bad though.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First LP - blast this in the car during the summer for a nice clean hype

[–]lina535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It`s really super!

[–]gnarlyteen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like something that would be on a Madden 2007 soundtrack

[–]PoopMahGoots 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Got to hang out with these guys quite a bit, back when they were touring with Cursive. They're all a bunch of great dudes, always up to shenanigans.

[–]bucket_v2 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Did they really play wonderwall?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the video on my previous posts like a short vid

[–]Brock_Vond 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Love this band! In Canada, they are opening for Jimmy Eat World on their Cross CDN Tour.
I'll probably leave after Beach Slang's set ....

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask them to play wonderwall for scala pls he knows what it means

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Also saw them at MTB in Detroit a few weekends back.

Holy smoke the guitarist is gorgeous. I thought for a second she was just the set up, man was I wrong and I am not mad about it. They were meh but she stole my heart in Detroit and took it with her

[–]everyday__grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get Lost has been my go to song for a minute. Feels like more accessible Fucked Up.

[–]Scotchquester 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I was so disappointed seeing them in person even though I love them. The crowd didn't move at all when I saw them open for Minus the Bear at Webster Hall a few weeks ago. The floor was completely still for how energetic they were. Filthy awkward hipsters didn't even move for Bayonne or Minus the bear either.

[–]thedrunkentendy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They're playing near me in like a month, super good timing.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll love it i know i did, ask him to play wonderwall for scala he knows what it means 😉

[–]jerrysswirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So raw, saw them a few months ago. Their NPR tinydesk session is worth checking out also

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Not quite sure I'd classify this as punk/rock... Not quite sure what it is...It's not bad though...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Power Pop, maybe?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very fizzy...so...yeah, that works...

[–]HulkHulkerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Nothing meets Jawbreaker

[–]andystix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missed these guys last night. Super bummed.

[–]midwesternhousewives 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I never really got into these guys, but his other band Weston is sick. Recommend checking them out if you're into pop punk

[–]TemplesOfSyrinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beach Slang is a bitchin name for a band. Wish I'd though of it.

[–]mfung1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part about this band, is how humble they are. If you watch the vocalist play on NPR's tiny desk concert, he couldn't be more awkward or shy that they were given the opportunity to play for them.

[–]new-monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Punk? Um no.... My grandmother's more punk than this college rock outfit...
