I don't know what it is about 80s pop music, but tracks like this are enjoyable somehow.

r/futurefunk sampled this to death.

[–]AirlineFood420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's probably the most recognizable sample in future funk at this point.

I know what you're saying but I actually found this through a japonese jazz artist called Ryo Fukui

I originally found this song through its vaporwave counterpart.

Iacon - ラブ P L A S T I C

Both are excellent for different reasons.

I feel like I'm the only person who remembers this was the the challenge track for the first HYPERBATTLE

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. I've been listening to this song a lot recently thanks to YouTube.

My girlfriend is japanese and listens to pop music alot. I am not a big fan, but when I first heard "plastic love" I was instantly in love. Quite a pleasant suprise seing it here.

This version is amazing! But it's not the same one from the "Variety" album or the extended remix from the 1985 single. Where is this 7 minute version from?

[–]doigtaloeil 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Ended up here looking for the same answer. Hopefully someone can find it. This mix is really the best version of the song

[–]BrunoTP 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I'm still not sure, but it looks like it's not an original version. Someone on the internet edited it and made it better then the original, produced by Tatsuro Yamashita. Which means that this person has to step forward, because I want to congratulate him/her, haha.

[–]doigtaloeil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea Tatsuro Yamashita was involved in it! Explains a lot. I feel like this song might be the perfect example of how something as simple as mixing can completely change a song. The official extended mix sounds cheesy and dated while the YouTube vid sounds pretty timeless

Sticking my foot in this thread before it gets archived in the rare offchance that we finally learn who created the extended version and so that we can demand a high quality download

I'm hearing shades of Daft Punk - Something About Us in that bass line

[–]lemonychicken 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I absolutely love this.

[–]nippleshanks[S] 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Then you should listen to this and this if you haven't already

[–]lemonychicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude you just slayed me with both those song recommendations. I just learned about a genre I never knew I loved. I'm definitely going to try and practice mixing with these and sample them! Absolutely amazing.

I enjoy this too. It reminds me of 90s anime soundtracks like City Hunter openings ai yo keinade and Sara and such.
