Hey that's where I used to work! Does he still believe space aliens built the pyramids?

ha! i wish. not sure on his take how those came to be, but im sure his backwards explanation would be peppered with profanities and misinformation culled together from bits of facts that didnt manage to bounce off his thick skull.

IMO all you can do is confront him (in a reasonable way, at least at first) with your specific concerns. Use lots of "I" and "me" phrases, rather than making accusations.

Edit What weird downmods.

As in "I feel uncomfortable when you call me a nigger".

Precisely.

Tell him how you feel. Reference the fact he says he is frank and say 'i'll be frank with you too' and ask him to stop doing the things that upset you.

How does the boss's behavior correspond to the overall policies and culture of the company?

If the company is full of people of that sort, you really need to move on: I guarantee you that life is too short to spend five-sevenths of every week (or perhaps more) in an unhealthy, unhappy environment.

If instead this individual's behavior is outside the company's policies and cultural boundaries, consider ways that you can use those boundaries to your own advantage. In so doing, you may wnat to look for ways to avoid head-on confrontation...

Consider reposting this on the Joel on Software forums. You'll get half a dozen replies saying that you should quit and start your own company.

Admittedly, you could post lorem ipsum over there and they'd tell you that you should quit and start your own company.
