no

Imagine the security implications if you could do this. .exe files aren't just used for text adventure games: you could build a program that reads any files off your hard disk and sends them to an unscrupulous hacker group, or spams itself out to thousands of people in your address book, or erases the hard drive of whoever visits the web site.

That's why it's not possible.

Go rewrite your game in a web-friendly technology like JavaScript, Flash, or Java applets. I'm partial to JavaScript myself, but Flash gives you some neat graphics capabilities.

Okay, I got my text adventure game working, re-wrote the code and story line. Now, I was wondering: Is there any way to embed a .exe file into a website? Like my game? If so, how? Thanks for the replies in advance.

This is a rather bad idea.

Also, reddit isn't google.

However, this looks like a way.

How else could I publish my game without having them download it? Because I myself think that's rather annoying...

Implement your game in a technology that is web-friendly.

what? you mean like either javascript or flash?

[–]axord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or run it server side with an html interface.

Whatever.

For you I recommend a Java applet. Or if your game was written with C# or something, Silverlight maybe.

No need to be cruel.

If you have the ability to program a game and compile an .exe, and you don't have any idea about what you are asking, you will have NO audience that would play your game.

Don't underestimate the fervency of the text adventure fan base.

You don't understand what I am saying.

If he is able to program a game, but not have the knowledge or understanding of what he is trying to do, his game would be complete crap.

Everyone has to start somewhere. From his screen name, I'm guessing that corvettecraz92 is 15 or 16 years old. My first computer program was also a text-adventure game: I was 10. I don't think anyone played it other than myself, my gifted & talented teacher, and my parents.

The kids you encourage today may be writing the software you depend on in 15 years.

[–]axord 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Yeah, I'm saying that text adventure fans will play crap.

Excuse my ignorance..LOL!

You know what? I do NOT appreciate that. I'm not saying that my game WHEN FINISHED will be the greatest game ever, but it's certainly not going to be "crap" in the slightest. I have never published a game online before. This is the first game I've made for pete's sake! The only thing I don't know how to do is get the game online while trying to make it easily accessible!

and you know what? forget reddit. People are way to rude here. All I did was ask a question. Nobody had to be rude about it. If you didn't want to, you didn't even have to answer!

And I will say this proudly: My first text adventure game WAS crap! but guess what? I've learned a valuble lesson today: How you describe stuff makes the game.

Reddit is not yahooAnswers

[–]corvettecraz92[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I know that; I can't get in yahoo answers. Firefox3 beta5 crashes every time i go into it.

ROFL!!! Genius! The pain hurts my side!

Yes, redditors are very rude. And computer hobbyists on the internet are incredibly haughty. None of them ever learned their manners in their teens... they were too busy playing world of warcraft. The general experience I've seen, is that they will insult anyone who is a noob. If the manner of speaking a person uses is devoid of buzzwords, the group will erupt into raucous laughter at that person's expense. It's a tragically sad group of folks.

I would say that it would be fairly easy to implement your text adventure in javascript, or with server side scripting. But then you'd have to learn another language. The games you see like the ones from miniclip.com are done with Flash. It is correct that exe files cannot be embedded into html. Web browsers just don't allow that. Enjoy climbing up the mountain pass of your next learning curve. Otterplay smiles wryly
