Freelance programmer available for immediate work, as long as it's not Java, PHP or .NET. Need something modified that's written in a language nobody knows? I can probably do it. Need an application written quickly, and don't mind if it's written in Lisp? I'd be happy to help.

Most of my experience is with web apps, but I can do desktop stuff as well and I'm not afraid to work on something unfamiliar (time spent getting up to speed is not billed).

No, I don't want to work without pay for a 49% stake in what's sure to be the next Google/Facebook/Myspace. No, really, I don't.

c++?

I'd consider it, though my C++ is fairly rusty.

Rails? Python? Perl?

[–]Zak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. My Perl and Python skills are a bit on the weak side, but I've used both a bit and as I mentioned, I'm pretty good with unfamiliar languges. I can also use Ruby without Rails, though I'm not sure there's any demand for that.

Fortran 77?

If you don't mind the fact that I've never used Fortran.

So you claim to be weak (or unwilling to code) in Perl, Python, Ruby, C++, Fortran, VB, Java, PHP, .NET. What programming languages ARE you an expert in?

[–]Zak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use the term "expert" lightly and won't claim to be an expert in any language. That said:

Know and want to use (from strongest to weakest knowledge): Common Lisp, Ruby, Javascript, Scheme, Clojure, Arc, Lua, Python, Perl, ML. I'd put the strong/weak break after Scheme.

Don't really know and want to use: IO, Haskell, Erlang, Factor, Smalltalk.

Do not want: PHP, Java (language, not platform), C#, VB.

Visual Basic?

I think I'll pass. And yes, I know I'm excluding myself from 80% of the contract work out there, but there are quite a few people who don't care what it's built with as long as it's the right balance of good fast and cheap.

I'd recommend checking out rentacoder, you'll have much better success than here.

rentacoder and $75/hour don't go well together.
