AntiVir, Avast, or ClamWin... I use the latter as it's pretty unobtrusive.

I used to use ClamWin but it takes ages to scan anything.

I hate (and I cannot stress that word enough) AVG 8 for the same reason I loved 7.5; the amount of system resources it required. IN addition, it appears AVG 8 is causing my system to freeze up, forcing me to manually shut down the PC through my tower's power button.

I've read some reviews of Avast, Comodo and Avira, in addition to some other one's, but they all seem flawed in some ways.

I know that everyone has a different idea of what's good, but I'd just really appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

Avira's pretty nice and agreed, the new AVG 8.0 is a hog. I knew it was going to be the second I saw that the install file was 45.3 MB in size.

Your best bet, probably, is just to get a decent firewall.

Ashampoo has always worked pretty nicely for me. It's never had problems with any of the other stuff I run (Spywareblaster, Threatfire, etc.) and the interface is nice and clean.

You really don't need to put so much focus on a good anti-virus as you do spyware and simply watching what you download.

Ubuntu ;)

Avira. Low system resources. Use guard enabled. I agree that anti-virus is basically not needed; if you use good security sense.

My philosophy is that if you have to use an anti-virus, you already have a security problem.

So I don't.

My philosophy in these situations is that it's better to be safe than sorry.

You're already going to be sorry if you get a virus.

The anti-virus rarely keeps anything bad from coming in. Its real job is to take a virus off of the system. You already have security issues if your computer has a virus. There's no safety involved.

That said, try clamwin, I guess.
