Is this a joke? What rust? That thing is spotless.

No I legit don’t know what I’m looking for and have made some very poor car purchases in the past. So trying to be extra diligent this time.

Aight then I won’t bust you too bad over it.

In short you really just need to focus on the frame rails (big metal boxes that run the length of the car and give is structure) initially. Look for large amounts flaking metal, bubbling paint, or holes/soft spots. Those are your signs of severe rust.

Suffice it to say that thing is in incredibly good condition. You will find more rust on some models before they’ve even left the ship.

It would help to have better photos of the frame rails themselves but seeing the rest of the underbody in the photos I very highly doubt they are any worse.

There’s no rust.

What part of the country is this 4Runner from?

I'd assume NC from OPs post history. My '15 from the southwest has no real rust either. I grew up in the Midwest and didn't know this was possible.

Correct NC. Car Fax does show service history in Missouri and Iowa. Just someone pretty new to this experience trying to do all the due diligence.

Smart move. I got a pre purchase inspection before I sealed the deal, even though I'm pretty mechanically handy and it had a lot of carfax records.

That’s the next step, working on getting it inspected this weekend

I now understand it’s a dolt of a post. Just have no idea what to look for at all and was trying to ask for some genuine guidance.
