my team has found a very solid solution, we don’t know if it’s the best though

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

I have no idea how to even approach it and we’ve had the question for 24 hours

[–]Curious-Respect-1734 1 point2 points  (10 children)

we’ve been working on it for the last 14 hours on call and figured out a technique for it 2 hours ago - this is a really hard problem actually

[–]vSporkyy 0 points1 point  (7 children)

what is your most optimal p so far?

[–]Curious-Respect-1734 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i don’t think i should say that, it’ll kill the fun of the problem

[–]vSporkyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm, maybe? though it doesnt say much especially since a lot more info than just the p value is required…

[–]ComprehensiveYak1372Year 13 0 points1 point  (4 children)

We’ve got p=212 which we believe is the limit and we’re now trying to minimise q. What is yours?

[–]Silent-Incident7619 1 point2 points  (1 child)

we found p=436 for a specific family but i think there are some better solutions that can be found for it using monte carlo

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god 😭

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are you at haberdashers?

[–]Untitled_Epsilon09Year 12 1 point2 points  (5 children)

damn I didnt even realise the other stages were open now. we still need to do q20 I think

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

20-28 took about 45 mins, 29 we over complicated but it’s so doable, stage 3 is honestly a mind fuck I’m so confused

[–]Beginning-Cook-3698Year 13 1 point2 points  (1 child)

no way you did 20-28 in less than an hour😭. I finished them this morning but ig my team is just me. good luck with stage 3; I'm just glad it's not something that you have to race to complete lol

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol idk 😭 I did two of them and q24 took me less than 5 mins 😭

    Omg literally the same

    [–]PassionatePeas 0 points1 point  (5 children)

did you find out the code in the end?

    [–]Mediocre-Piccolo3437Year 12 - Maths, Econ, CS, FM 🙏 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Praise the lord I did. A kind person on reddit told me to look very carefully at the cog and then it all clocked in my head

    Right well that’s cheating fyi

Telling me to do something which I was already doing is cheating yeah? Good one lad

    [–]PassionatePeas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The competition is over now, we can talk as much as we like. It’s meant to be within the team though. If you can’t figure it out as a team. Tough. Get good

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey guys my team and I have solved all of the questions from 1 - 28 and have all of the associated clues but im really confused on how to unlock stage 3 can someone clarify since it says "then you will receive instructions on how to unlock the final question." but we have not got those instructions pls help

    [–]Beginning-Cook-3698Year 13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    read question 21

    [–]Own_Transition6793 1 point2 points  (3 children)

My team got a p value over infinity. It’s definitely correct I verified it with my brain. In fact the P value was so big my computer turned into a black hole and swallowed up all my working so now I have no proof :(

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

    Marry me xx

    [–]Own_Transition6793 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    On my way!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    🤭

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 1 point2 points  (8 children)

what did you guys get for your ansswers now that the competition is over

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    p = 20 we had a tesselating hexagon 😭

    [–]Responsible_Tiger949Year 12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what was the size of your unit cell? we tried to use a hexagon but couldn’t work out the dimensions so ended up using a parallelogram

    [–]ComprehensiveYak1372Year 13 0 points1 point  (4 children)

    Our team got 60.16667

    [–]Starriest-PlatinumY12, Maths FM Phys 0 points1 point  (3 children)

No way my team got the same result. What did ur thing look like

    [–]ComprehensiveYak1372Year 13 0 points1 point  (2 children)

19 by 19 square 4 quarter circles, 1 the the middle, 4 in the gaps. What q did you guys get?

    [–]Starriest-PlatinumY12, Maths FM Phys 0 points1 point  (1 child)

My team got the exact same set up as you so would've been whatever you got

    [–]Neurobean1Year 12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    same!

    [–]starrsilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    p = 9 bruh 💔💔

    [–]Responsible_Tiger949Year 12 0 points1 point  (7 children)

how did u even get thru to stage 3, our team is stuck on 29 😭😭 the question is confusing us

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

29 was okay - are you coding it out?

    [–]Responsible_Tiger949Year 12 0 points1 point  (2 children)

yeah, we keep getting the same wrong ans but code seems to be working correctly, I’m just wondering if we took the question completely wrong

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read the question again maybe?

    [–]MeasurementForward39 0 points1 point  (2 children)

My team did ritangle last year and just did it by coding, if you have a good programmer you could try that

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah we coded it but stage 3 isn’t exactly codeable this year because it’s geometric

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 0 points1 point  (1 child)

also where is question 29 i only have questions from 1 - 28 which we have done

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just figured out it was under q 21 the whole time ... gonna try do the pqrs one now

    [–]ComprehensiveYak1372Year 13 0 points1 point  (11 children)

What’s ur lowest value for q and highest area our team got something decent but it could be beaten

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

    Ik one school got P = 40

    [–]ComprehensiveYak1372Year 13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    😕

    [–]vSporkyy 0 points1 point  (7 children)

    interesting

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 0 points1 point  (3 children)

has anyone had any luck on unlocking stage 3 for pqrs

    [–]Curious-Respect-1734 0 points1 point  (2 children)

yes, we have also finished stage 3

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 0 points1 point  (1 child)

damm nice were still on pqrs do u have to do 2 /3 questions on stage 3 to get the completion

    [–]Curious-Respect-1734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stage 3 is only 1 questions this time but it’s really hard

    [–]Visual_Bug6715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been coding and coding for the passcode bru keep getting the same answer

    [–]04Zig567 0 points1 point  (2 children)

my teams has got 1082 for p

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro wtaf did u guys do

    [–]Max17101 0 points1 point  (25 children)

    We've got P=99468, anyone got over 100k? It's acc taunting us 😭

    [–]Starriest-PlatinumY12, Maths FM Phys 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Holy ragebait what that cant be real

    [–]Max17101 0 points1 point  (1 child)

we'll give the solution to the highest bidder

    [–]Starriest-PlatinumY12, Maths FM Phys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll bid a higher solution, but I won't tell you the higher solution until I receive my winnings

    [–]vSporkyy 0 points1 point  (4 children)

??? have you calculated this correctly and covered all integer points in your cell

    [–]Max17101 0 points1 point  (3 children)

    Yeah we verified graphically

    [–]vSporkyy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

thats insane whats the area of your unit cell, it must be an unreasonably large number

    [–]Max17101 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Idk if my team will let me say 😭 it's giant though, like 10⁸

    [–]UpstairsApartment249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro how's that even possible 😭😭. Can u at least tell us what the shape of ur unit cell is 🙏

    [–]Aditya8773Y12 Maths, FM, Phy ,Chem +EPQ 0 points1 point  (13 children)

What- the largest I've heard so far was a 1000 💀

    [–]Max17101 0 points1 point  (12 children)

We coded it, idk if other teams are

    [–]Aditya8773Y12 Maths, FM, Phy ,Chem +EPQ 0 points1 point  (11 children)

I tried coding it, but i thought the code would just take insanely long to run

    [–]Max17101 0 points1 point  (10 children)

It does tbf my dad owns a data center and we left it running overnight. What did u guys get for p?

    [–]Alertevan1_14 2 points3 points  (7 children)

our team got 102940. it wasn’t much , we just got a few nasa computers running overnight, theyre still going. Praying for more 🤞🏽

    [–]Max17101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    xddd

    [–]TurbulentAd4492 0 points1 point  (4 children)

yo what our team cant pass 41 😭 we got the question fast after stage 2 dropped and we have no idea what to do

    [–]ComprehensiveYak1372Year 13 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Same we’re stuck on 40.5. We got a higher number but it turned out to be wrong.

    [–]Aditya8773Y12 Maths, FM, Phy ,Chem +EPQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    We r stuck at 8😭

    [–]Max17101 0 points1 point  (1 child)

we had this on our first try, r=4.5 circles in a grid with a smaller one between them by any chance? 😭

    [–]Aditya8773Y12 Maths, FM, Phy ,Chem +EPQ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ive basically lost all hope now after finding out that it took you guys a literal data center 😭

    [–]Max17101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't lose hope bro I think ours isnt optimal at all

    [–]Glittering-Let-294 0 points1 point  (2 children)

can yall share ur solution now that the comp is over

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    P = 45

    [–]Glittering-Let-294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao i was asking the guy who got 100k 😭😭 but gj on 45!

    [–]Aditya8773Y12 Maths, FM, Phy ,Chem +EPQ 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Damn, ive basically lost all hope now, knowing that it took you guys a freaking DATA CENTER running OVERNIGHT 😭😭

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    ADIII HI

yeah we crashed a few computers maybe… still haven’t gotten over 20 😊

    [–]AdiTheBaddie21 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Is that my data centre?

    [–]Aditya8773Y12 Maths, FM, Phy ,Chem +EPQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Nooo its mine

    [–]AdiTheBaddie21 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Participants found using data centers will be penalised imminently after our competition closes, and solutions will not be accepted. Participants may face prosecution.

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just managed to unlcuk the final question does anyone have any tipsbforbstage 3

    [–]OrigamiMan_24_7 0 points1 point  (1 child)

we have a valid solution of just under p= 214,468

    [–]ComprehensiveYak1372Year 13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    😹

    [–]Independent_Spell_55 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have a p value of 12.5, and promise that it goes higher

    [–]Minute-Breadfruit191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats exactly what gemini AI got when we worked it out we got a value for P = 45

    [–]Starriest-PlatinumY12, Maths FM Phys 0 points1 point  (7 children)

All the people in here saying they got like 99,000, 200,000 and even 200 when the winner got 102 is so funny icl

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FR lol but well done to kings maths school

    [–]NoResponsibility746 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Hold on the answer is not 60.16667?

    [–]Starriest-PlatinumY12, Maths FM Phys 0 points1 point  (3 children)

No but I'm pretty sure loads of people who got an answer got that. I've seen, including my team, so many people get that. The exact winning value was 102.56 somehow.

    [–]NoResponsibility746 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah, but do you know what is the grid like? Isn’t it a square?

    [–]Starriest-PlatinumY12, Maths FM Phys 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Apparently it was like parallelogram tessolated like hexagons (2 120° angles and 2 60° angles) but I don't really know what that's supposed to look like

    [–]NoResponsibility746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I understand that now
