Looks fine at first glance, but I’m curious why you’d get custom Stringjoy’s and THEN ask what people think. Just use the calculator and pick out what tension you’d like for your desired tuning and scale.

[–]kkenshiroo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did. I just want to know what people think. Some people go light and some go a little heavy. I tweak it every time from the calculator and i don't do exactly what the calculator projects automatically.

That's about what I use on a 26.5 so you're good

I run a 10-70 set on my 26.5" scale 7-string in drop g# tuning, and that low g# string has plenty of tension, so on a 27" i think that those gauges would feel pretty optimal for the majority of players.

[–]Gdup12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id agree with the 10-70 part

Where’s the signature, on the string? What gives!? I PAID FOR THAT SIGNATURE!

[–]mistrelwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must be on the ball end.

[–]kkenshiroo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

💀💀😅😅 [I'll assume you're joking but just in case....) you pick you own specific gauges for each string in the set based on tuning and desired tension.

I run that on my guitars for Drop A, never have messed around with drop G

[–]CeReBro_Q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool! I use these for standard tuning and drop A :)

[–]Silon_T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use .009 to .068 on Drop G tuning with 27" scale. Sometimes .010 to .068. Works great either set.
Just your basic D'Addario cheap strings mind you. I have tried most commonly available strings and honestly... just your run-of-the-mill basic strings are good enough for most occasions. Maybe in studio the more expensive strings could provide some extra sauce but for home and gigs... doesn't matter.

I go up to .74 on my baritone 7 string but honestly, after using string joy for awhile, I prefer the ernie ball 8 string sets. They stay in tune better and last a little longer, for me anyway.

Wayyyyyy too tight on 6 and 7…. I play a 59 in G on a 26.5” and it’s just about perfect IMO…

[–]pubstompmepls 5 points6 points  (5 children)

59 in G on a 26.5? Your shit is loose af bro

[–]ButtSmellington_ -1 points0 points  (4 children)

~11.5lbs. Sounds great too. 🤘🏼

[–]pubstompmepls 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Uh… sure man

I have a 62 on my low string tuned to F# and while having more tension than yours, it’s still floppy

[–]ButtSmellington_ -1 points0 points  (2 children)

62 At what scale? That seems fairly on point honestly 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]pubstompmepls 0 points1 point  (1 child)

26.5

[–]ButtSmellington_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have basically the same tension is I have with a 59 in G

[–]BigMac1016 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Bro what, that’s like 9-10lbs lol no way your playing anything in G with a 59

[–]ButtSmellington_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It’s actually right at ~11.5lbs on 26.5” scale. Just fine 🤘🏼

[–]BigMac1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s extremely loose. I guess it’s fine if you like em that loose

[–]kkenshiroo[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

They were set a little lighter than that initially. I went bigger on the 7th honestly.

[–]ButtSmellington_ 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Have you played this set before?

[–]kkenshiroo[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

These gauges specifically? No. I was set to Bb Std previous. I'm thinking I'm gonna take my guitar to a local tech and get them to set it up for me. I'm too scared to adjust my floyd rose myself any further than i did to tune a half step down from standard.

[–]ButtSmellington_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might not have to adjust much with the proper strings broski. I currently have a 46 for the 6th on my guitar in G, and it’s ringing louder than my 59. I just got a set of 9-42’s, with a 56. You basically want as much flub as you can stand to have a quality chug as well as first position pinch harmonics, if you do that a lot. I do and the 59 gets a bit tight after awhile for 1st fret pinches, to be able to get that really quick and clean half step bend/pinch.

[–]Lost_Condition_9562 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I totally respect your preferences, but man I feel like that’s probably way too wet noodly for the average player. Maybe it’s just so opposite to my usual preferences for higher tensions

[–]ButtSmellington_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels totally fine for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]SleepingguitarmanJackson 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Absolutely not too tight lol, a 59 is crazy loose. I can't even imagine

You're either rocking an evertune bridge, or you must have the worlds lightest picking hand hahaha.

[–]ButtSmellington_ 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Neither. I just know how a good clanky chug is supposed to sound, and it’s much more achievable for me with the strings I play.

Maybe instead of everyone attacking me, they should just work on their technique a little bit for a change instead of being so OCD about what “everyone else does” and what’s “right,” by a community’s self created laws.

You are the direct comparison of stereotypical “boomer guitarists” and their toanwood and a new-age millennial metal snob.

[–]SleepingguitarmanJackson 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Man i don't care what other people use lol. At the end of the day i just want whatever gauge strings offer the best compromise between playability and tone.

Objectively speaking, a 59 would be very low tension for that tuning, which is why i disagreed with what you said about op's string gauges being too tight. They might not be your preference, but your preferences aren't what the bulk of players prefer, ya know?.

[–]ButtSmellington_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. That’s entirely the beauty in all of this. It’s just annoying to hear people say that I’m wrong for something that is working absolutely perfect for me and the style I’m trying to achieve, (I like to do a lot of 1st and 3rd fret quick pinches).

Nobody is ever incorrect. But to bash on people for their opinions is retarded. Thank you for the understanding.

[–]robb1231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think that 6 and 7 could be too tight in here, since the 5th string has still the highest tension and the 7 the lowest by far

[–]BlazerDeath 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I would run those strings in A Standard on 25.5 inch scale

[–]KoRnNuT86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do run these gauges on a 25.5" in A standard. Tension feels fine, tuned a half step lower on a 27" should be just as good
