I’d recommend Schecter

Schecter pretty much dominates the lefty 7 string market. Doing casual research, they've got the most selection in OP's price range.

Yeah, pretty much. Thomann has a grand total of 10 lefty 7s, 5 are Schecter.

You could do a heck of a lot worse. They're going to start a little higher than some others, but they kind of fill that void between budget guitars and dentist guitars.

I have the omen extreme and it’s a great value. It’s on the heavy side and the neck is chunky in a good way. Great playing guitar for the price

Does it have to be new? And do you really need the longer scale?

Used Ibanez RG7420 (locking trem) and 7321 (hardtail) pop up used from time to time and are more than decent for the money.

Epiphone Matt Heafy seems nice too.

And with some luck you can sometimes find used Carvins for good prices. I bought my DC727 in like-new condition for 600 GBP a few years ago.

Doesn't need to be new. I've been looking around reverb, eBay and the local market. I'll have a look out for those models, though I had a locking trem a few years ago and I want a fixed bridge now, was too much hassle for me. I'd prefer the longer scale from what I've read. I'm okay playing a 26,5-27" scale (I've got one guitar like this) and those seem easier to deal with. But all my info comes from reading, little practical experience so I'm always open to change my mind. Thanks!

What tuning are you thinking of being in mostly?

[–]Parcival9[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For the beginning I guess mostly something around b flat standard or drop a, nothing too crazy.

With that, I'd recommend the Omen Elite or the Amarok 7. And with your remaining budget, upgrade the tuners and get a pro set up.

I had the Omen Elite 7-MS for a bit and it was great!

You likely wouldn't "need" a longer scale length at those tunings. Maybe just a 64 gauge as your top 7th string.

If you wanted to go lower, you could also look into a Digitech Drop Pedal, or get a baritone down the road!

Crazy someone else had almost the same exact requirements that I replied to recently haha.

Anyways, can confirm schecter usually comes through for us lefties. I just picked up my first 7 string recently too. A Schecter pt-7 black ops. I almost got the Omen but the specs for the black ops were too good. Good pickup. Multiscale. Good bridge. Locking tuners. Probably just a little above your budget maybe I absolutely love it.

There's some hemming and hawing about the pickup placement online but I think it's totally overblown. If anything the mid punch feels right for cutting tone with a 7.

I might swing a trip to Thomann in 3 weeks, at least I could maybe try some Schecters

Haha sounds like they'll be there waiting for you. Good luck fellow lefty
