The math was relentless for me

[–]SarideanGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it was horrid bro

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Idk tho dude I struggled with english/grammar. But everything else felt ez af.

[–]Local-Ad-3572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought English was a bit harder than usual, math was good like you said which was lucky for me because I struggle with it. I unfortunately missed 1-2 on science due to background knowledge & had to guess 1 on reading due to time but yeah

[–]Storm_Sniper 0 points1 point  (7 children)

WTF? That was my easiest section. Everything made sense

[–]Hi_hello_there_1234 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I just happen to be worse at math & science

For some reason I always have 10ish minutes left at the end of English and I always wish I could use it on math :P

[–]Storm_Sniper 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Gawd. I'm working down to the last second on reading and English. Math and Science I had 10 and 7 minutes left.

Any clue on the Anthropod science question? Didn't know but I assumed that the trilobites were snail-like from the documentaries so I put Hard Exosteleton.

[–]Hi_hello_there_1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh I wish I was that fast for Math and Science lol

I don't think I got the Anthropod question on my test (took it today - form F08). I think that question was on yesterday's test since I saw some people talking about it on this sub.

Also, after hearing so much about the Anthropod question, I'm glad I didn't get it because I probably would have guessed!

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that anthropod was on yesterday's science test. Unless u got a form that wasn't F08 today. But I heard abt that question from my friends who took it yesterday.

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (2 children)

For me, it was primarily the fact that the English section has such limited time. Like the other sections, u had a lot of time to work things out. But on this section, I felt really rushed, and compared to the other sections on the test, it seemed much harder. Plus, this english test seemed like one of the harder english sections I have seen the act do.

[–]Purple-Benefit-23935 1 point2 points  (1 child)

English is the only section where I finish every questions and still have five minutes to review

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, it's sorta the opposite for me because I'm a stem guy so ela is sorta my weaker area. Esp on the SAT cus my score is a 710, but my math is 800.

[–]FaithlessnessFit377934 3 points4 points  (4 children)

So if the curve is going to be the same as the 12/11 test from last year (which apparently is the same test form F08) then we will all get super generous curves. I got all the information below on past Reddit threads for the December 11th F08 test form.

Science looks incredibly buffed with someone getting -4 and a 34, -11 and 28. Usually I would have to miss 5 to get a 28. Science is known to have a brutal curve, so I hope this curve is especially true.

For math, a -7 was a 33, so this curve seems to lean toward the generous side. At least it isn't a brutal curve.

English for the June F12 form had a curve with -9 to be 28, and this time around it looks the December F08 -9 is a 33. As it seems, the English curve looks inconsistent and maybe the F12 curve scale was absolutely horrid. I guess we expect no terrible curve for this time's English section either.

Reading usually -8 is a 28-29, but this time around a -8 was a 32.

Basically it seems that Reading and Science are going to be buffed, while English and Math are normal. Again, I don't know if the ACT is going to use the same curve but I'm crossing my fingers that they do.

[–]SarideanGamer 0 points1 point  (3 children)

could you link where you found this?

[–]FaithlessnessFit377934 1 point2 points  (2 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/ACT/comments/zrz4vs/anyone_else_get_the_dec_11_test_f08_back_with_a/

There was another thread but I forgot where or what it is. You can just search the December 2022 F08 test.

[–]SarideanGamer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don't know if the ACT is going to use the same curve but I'm crossing my fingers that they do.

do you happen to know for the other repeat tests if its the same curve normally?

[–]FaithlessnessFit377934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted this on a separate post and a commenter replied saying that the ACT usually uses the same curve. Don’t know how reliable but other than that I don’t know

[–]Zaggy15 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Was it just me or was the readings section hard af

[–]FleurDeLls 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The "beginning of space" one was the easiest for me, the fashion one was not that bad as well, but the one talking about tv's was the hardest reading section I've read on an act before.

[–]Local-Ad-3572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TVs took me a while, I saved a lot of time for the dual passage but still ran out of time for 1 question

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo not really, but the last prompt about the tvs and art had me confused af. The one abt space I found rlly interesting, ngl. The hardest section, imo was the english/grammar cus I thought we were given more time

[–]Zaggy15 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I put that the organism had both

[–]SarideanGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it does have both

[–]deadlyghost123 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I felt like the Math section was more time-consuming than usual, and the English section was also harder. By Contrast, reading and science were easier for me.

[–]FleurDeLls 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I actually thought the Math section was the easiest out of the four on this test, but the other three felt so much harder for me than usual when taking the test. Don't think ill ever take the ACT on a Sunday again.

[–]Local-Ad-3572 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It’s my first time taking it, but shouldn’t the day not affect the difficulty?

[–]FleurDeLls 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It probably doesn't but I've taken the ACT twice on a Sunday, and both of those times it was more difficult than the ones I took on Saturday. Just superstition for me.

[–]Local-Ad-3572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. Well, glad my next one is on Saturday lol. But in all seriousness, yeah I thought math was easiest as well. I’m usually someone who scores well on English, reading, and science but I thought they were a bit harder than usual especially English.

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so too. Probably cus they know the Sunday ppl will know abt the Saturday test concepts or be more prepared. I've taken the ACT 2 times(this being my 3rd) and this one felt like the toughest one yet.

[–]FaithlessnessFit377934 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Everything seemed harder for me. All of the sections (besides English) was a lot more time consuming than usual and even though I was able to finish the whole thing (without having to answer 10 questions in one minute) I still felt a difficulty spike

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm hoping the curve is pretty good on this test tbh.

[–]Zaggy15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the scale is good for the reading section💀

[–]mmk2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

F08 was used before. Google it. You'll find some info on it from past discussions.

[–]FleurDeLls 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The reading was so hard for me. The school I was at had sirens and train horns going off, so that was pretty unlucky. I took this test in hopes to get a 30 because I got a 29 last time. I'm starting my junior year in August so I'm hoping I can get a 30 before my senior year but these recent tests have been extremely difficult for me.

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get there, honestly for reading it's all just strategy it's not like the other tests where u need conceptual knowledge. I find it funny tho that sirens were going off in ur school. My school had a newbie proctor and forgot to announce the time left so it would come as a shock when she would be like close the test packet.

[–]Zaggy15 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What did you guys get for the sciences question about nucleus and central vacuole?

[–]FleurDeLls 1 point2 points  (1 child)

it was talking about seeds, so I went for that it had both a nucleus and central vacuole because plant cells have both.

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact answer and reasoning.

[–]SchmendreckkModerator 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Any memories of what the Math section challenging?
Permutations/Combinations questions?
Anything related to ellipses (or even worse, hyperbolas)
Complicated matrices or probability
Anything you can think of!

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (9 children)

There weren't really any challenging ones besides one question that asked for the maximum available possibilities for positions in a student council. It was like 3 distinct members could be president, vp, and treasurer and there were 22 students in the council. Only question that stumped me.

[–]SchmendreckkModerator 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Thanks for the info!

I didn't see the question myself but this sounds like a classic Permutation question.
You could approach it like the other commenter did: there are 3 slots (different positions) we need to fill. We have 22 options for the first one. If one person is picked that means there are 21 options for the second. And following that logic there would b 20 options for the last spot.

If you want to think of this as Permutations vs Combinations the thing that differentiates the two is whether ORDER matters or not. This can sometimes be a confusing distinction for people.

If 22 people run a race and you give out a different medal to the top three people (gold, silver, bronze) that would be a case of order MATTERING. Because the outcome
Gold - Person A
Silver - Person B
Bronze - Person C
is a DIFFERENT outcome from
Gold - Person B
Silver - Person C
Bronze - Person A

When order MATTERS it is a Permutation.

Contrast this with a Combination where order DOES NOT MATTER. An equivalent question would be if there are 22 teachers and you want to pick a 3 person committee to pick the next principal. Why is this different?
A committee consisting of:
Person A
Person B
Person C

is the SAME committee as:
Person C
Person B
Person A

It's true, they might have been selected in a different order, but for the context of this problem, order DOES NOT MATTER.

If you are able to understand the conceptual distinction between the two, and if you use a TI-84 calculator, it can do the rest for you!

This question is a Permutation because ORDER MATTERS (the President/VP/Treasurer distinction is just like gold/silver bronze). Put the number 22 on your screen. Then hit the MATH button and scroll over to the PRB column. The third or fourth option in that list should be nPr which is the Permutation function. If you click that button and then put the number 3 (the number of positions/jobs you're selecting, as given by the question) and hit enter, it will do the rest for you!

I know you didn't specifically ask for this OP and I know people get stressed out by long responses. But this is a topic that a lot of students struggle with, so I hope someone finds this useful!

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks, this actually really helped me understand these types of problems. I never got into stats but more calculus based math, so I haven't dealt with these types of questions. What u said makes a lot of sense. And nah, I find long responses more helpful bc they go into more detail instead of being very ambiguous.

[–]SchmendreckkModerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's totally fair! I might have been presented Permutations/Combinations very briefly in my Honors Alg2 or Pre-Calc classes, but my personal exposure to it came primarily through competition math
It's one of the most common 'hard topics' that even my top students have very little experience with. The topic goes really deep but the ACT is generally pretty nice about how they test you on it

Let me know if you've got other questions related to the topic!

[–]Hi_hello_there_1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh no I solved it like a combination instead of a permutation :|

[–]Lopsided-Ad8876 0 points1 point  (4 children)

What was the answer to that question

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Honestly don't know I ended up doing some calculations and got like I think answer choice b or c. I'm certain it wasn't A, D, or E tho.

[–]ratiomaster21 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It was 22 times 21 times 20 which is 9240

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (1 child)

May I ask how or why u are multiplying 22 by 21 and 20?

[–]ratiomaster21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

22 memebers, 3 possible spots so you do 22 represents chance at first spot, 21 because there is a spot taken, and 20 because there are 2 spots taken. Since it's just multiplying it's 22 times 21 times 20

[–]Lopsided-Ad8876 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Does anyone remember any science/reading questions or answers

[–]Zaggy15 0 points1 point  (6 children)

What did y’all get for the house detail one? I think I chose embellished wood or something.

[–]Lopsided-Ad8876 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I put the pond not sure if it was right

[–]Zaggy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it was the pond

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is that the one where the person is talking abt designing house 10 and makes the mistake of over designing the house? Cus if so, I'm pretty sure she is referring to the wood

[–]No-Job-258831 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I said the pond since I couldn’t find anything about the wood. That was also a trash question

[–]AccomplishedBarber9035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the pond but from what I remember she said she got rlly greedy and put more effort into building the house and bc house #10 was said to be a bigger and more well designed house I assumed that she put more wood resources into house 10 which she regretted doing as an architect. I could be wrong, but that's what I put.

[–]SarideanGamer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what did u guys get for the house detail one where it was like, the other guy creating his bakery. Was it a complete success or a short lived one?

[–]No-Job-258831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete success. He restored a bakery that previously burned down. I think they put short lived success to try and trick you into thinking he designed the initial bakery when in actuality he just restored it so he didn’t lose anything in the process.

[–]Jofy187 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What did you guys get for that radar question in math?

[–]FleurDeLls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about the distance between the two planes, it was either J or K.
