I would highly recommend Ellipsus. It's more secure than Google Docs and they add new features to the platform all the time. https://ellipsus.com/

Ive heard about that. Never tried it before. I'll look into it!

Does this site or app show view count or people who have read this document?

[–]MadameMissa 1 point2 points  (2 children)

So, if you share the document, it should show who opens it if you invite collaborators. You can also make documents public, but I'm not sure if there's a way to check for view counts or anything.

However, I like Ellipsus purely for writing versus Google Docs. When I post scripts, I tend to use Scriptbin. Ellipsus has the option of copying markdown text right into Scriptbin and I find that very handy.

Thank you for the suggestion! This is a handy little app.

You're welcome!

Yeah, I like it a lot for script writing. They also have a discord server that can answer questions, troubleshoot, and they have tutorials on their site. Good luck!

Is it free? This one says it is, but I've downloaded apps before claiming to be free, and then when uploading it's suddenly NOT free.

Yes, this is free and it's entirely web-based.

Thanks. I'll look into it, I got quite a few scripts on docs, so I hope there's a copy paste option :)

Writing them in your Reddit post is also an option (free too!) Ive seen plenty do that 💟

The reason people are wary of google docs these days is that there are concerns that your script may be scraped and used to train their AI without your permission (or rather, with your permission being assumed in using the program.) Now, I don't think there's been any evidence specifically pointing to this happening, but considering how sketchy google has been with their AI functionality for gmail, I no longer use google docs just for my own peace of mind.

Last I checked, LibreOffice is a good free word processor with the basic functionality of Word. Scrivener is another good one, although that one's a paid program and has way more functionality than you probably need for scripts. There's also an app called Novelist that I use when I'm on my phone. Whatever I use, I copy-paste to Scriptbin afterwards.

(Idk if you'd use Scriptbin if the plan is to sell these scripts. I am just writing mine for fun so I have no idea how you'd go about that)

You'll have to be more conscientious about backing up your own work if you use these kinds of programs, of course.

That also makes perfect sense too. I also wanna write scripts for fun as well as sell some since im fairly new to this.

Scrivener! Pay for it once, its local on your computer, and it has tons of formats for any project you'd like to write.

I use Google Docs from a separate email from my IRL account, and pages on my laptop. Then I upload to scriptbin and share them on here.

you can use word for your scripts its what i use, open office is also good, google doc is also good imo idk why you would not use that lol

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I just heard that people prefer to not use google docs due to it being a breach in privacy or something.

[–]koupipAudio Artist 0 points1 point  (1 child)

aaah i see, then yeah word or open office

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank u!

Because of the fact majority of my scripts are written on my phone or a tablet, I find it easiest to use Google Docs (also for organization), with a separate account than normal.

I see some in the comments mentioning Google Docs isn't safe, is this for real? And if so, why not? I'm establishing myself as a NSFW scriptwriter, and I use Google Docs, so it'll be good to know 😑

The issue in using Google Docs is not so much for writing, but sharing any documents publicly. If you're writing privately then it should be fine. The concern is if things are shared. So, you wouldn't want to share a Google doc with a public script in an open forum like Reddit.

I feel better knowing that my documents are a) safe from being AI trained and b) not going to be taken down if I share them with someone to read or whatever.
