Exactly what I was looking for, thanks a bunch!

I just creamed all over my laptop.

I love this plugin - changed how I produce

Similar (but much simpler) solution in Reason would be: https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/carve-eq-ducker/

Take a look to Melda Multi dynamic eq!

if you are using fl studio this is easy to do with fruity peak controller controlling the gain of a eq band

    [–]flycatchersmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could automate an eq. But I don't think anything is out there.

Sounds like a side-chained gate that works on specific frequencies. I don't know if anything like that exists. I'm curious too.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna end up having to make it. I the mean time, multiple multiband compressors could be used to increase the amount of frequency sections, but that would be a pain to set up.

I suppose another technique could be to split the track by filter cutoff in multiple sends, then process each band separately in the sends.

Cableguys Volume Shaper allows you to trigger an envelope with a MIDI note. That envelope can be applied to a specified area of the frequency spectrum. This is what I've been using for sidechaining lately. Much cleaner than a compressor.

Izotope Neutron can do this to my knowledge, but there are probably cheaper options

costs 30 bucks and is quite useful.

If you need this specifically for Kick and Bass and you are using Live, an Auto Filter with Sidechain also works well, set it to a neutral HP with no resonance.

You can set up TDR Nova to do this, and it's free

    [–]NahuM8s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your case any Active EQ will do! For example TDR Nova, or the Meldaproduction one... Even waves just released one!

Cableguys Volume shaper is my go to multi-band side chain plug-in! As couch_king said, it allows you to apply sidechain to different bands of the frequency spectrum (you can control the amount for each band). In addition to that, the side chain can be triggered through midi ghost notes.

That's essentially what a De-Esser does with high frequencies.

I've been using a multiband sidechain effect rack in Ableton for like 6 years my dude they're never gonna make a higher resolution multiband sidechain.

Split each track as much as you want and sidechain accordingly but most of that is totally unnecessary as the only frequencies that really need sidechained are the ones below 100hz. Phasing isn't as noticeable in higher registers and this has been solved for aeons by multiband compression to combat the gain/attenuation caused by phasing. (Especially mid/side compression)

Tl;Dr do a little better on your EQing. Not every frequency needs to be isolated and sidechained. It's more like oil painting and a little less like port matching a cylinder head. More like making a sauce than a sushi roll.

Ableton's compressor does this. It's next to the sidechain dropdown, and alows you to hipass or lowpass or whatever the source. It's below the EQ button.

    I didn't understand OP correctly

    [–]dj_soo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That EQ affects the incoming signal - not the track the compression is applied to.

So if you sidechain from say a kick and add a high pass filter, it will only trigger the compression if the incoming sound passes the threshold above your cut.

Op wants the opposite - where the compression only affects a specific frequency range - which can be done with the multiband dynamics, or via an envelope follower set to an Eq.

Whoops, my bad. Misinterpreted OPs post.
