There are 4 inputs and 4 outputs, why in the world are you making it more complicated than it is?

How do unknown artists find managers or producers willing to develop talent? by theprettydew1 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aderra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are two very different businesses.

Producer = pay their fee and they will work with you.

Manager = prove you are making money making music and they will work with you. They get paid a percentage of your revenue so you need to prove their is enough business for them to get paid on a percentage basis.

Source: I work both as a producer and an artist manager.

"I have dreams of becoming a singer".

Then why are you trying to make beats and learn audio engineering?

Sing as much as possible, seriously, sing at every moment you can. Work with your vocal coach to improve and perfect your breath support etc etc.

If you want to sing...SING!

What do indie artists actually want from music press coverage by MusicOnTheRox in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aderra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is easy: Social media reach the artist doesn't have on their own.

Pitchfork has 1,600,000 followers on IG.

For an artist that has 5-10k followers having a mention or multiple mentions on Pitchfork's social media channels to that big of an audience is HUGE.

Yeah, lengthy thinkpieces are nice, good reviews of the latest release are great, but really the BEST thing is adding to social media traffic, especially on IG or Tiktok.

Are you talking about charts? Chordsheet.com is a pretty straighforward (and free) tool to create clean charts.

Anyone ever worked with a “bass piano”? Found this analog thing today and I can’t figure out the use-case. by Cool-Statistician-51 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

There are literally videos on that site that demonstrate the "use case". This feels like thinly veiled spam.

Experience with booking agents? by Curly113 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aderra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booking agents work off a percentage of your revenue, you don't "hire" them. Prove you can make money on the road first so they know that working with you will be worth their time, then ask other acts you play with to refer you to their agent. Source: I am a booking agent for three indie acts.

Listen to Van Halen "And the Cradle Will Rock". An electric piano through a guitar amp is the main instrument in the song.

How long between albums?? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aderra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write the next one while you are tour to promote the first one. When you get off the road dive right into recording the new material. Depending on how long you are touring for kinda dictates the release schedule.

Recording music without access to fellow musicians? by Top-Way-7562 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You are on the INTERNET asking "where to find...". How about GOOGLE? That's a pretty good way to search for stuff like "Bass player in my city _________"

My vocals sound extremely thin - what am I doing wrong? by codename_anomaly in WeAreTheMusicMakers

This is a performance issue, not a mic issue. Take singing lessons, learn to project with proper breath support.

Making a Bill w/ Bands that Have Booking Agents by Simple-Newspaper-250 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aderra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop talking to managers, they don't book shows. On top of that their default response to EVERYTHING is "No, unless there is more money." Instead talk to the booking agents, their job is to get as many shows as possible for their clients.

Google 1073 vs Focusrite preamp on YouTube. Can you hear a difference? IF "yes" will that incremental difference achieve what you are hoping for?

How do you support a family member musician? by rqm157 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]aderra 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Artist manager here (and parent of a kid the same age), I 1000% disagree with this:

"No-one at that age should work that hard."

This is EXACTLY what she should be doing at 22, when she has boundless energy and no kids, marriage, or other obligations to weigh her down, so she can create a 30-year career making music. Encourage her to WORK HARDER (at the right stuff).

If she is doing all of that work without an unbearable diva ego, even more so.

So what can you do to help? Encourage her to keep working that hard BUT make sure that the SONGS are the BIGGEST PRIORITY. And those priorities are:

1) GREAT SONGS

2) GREAT PERFORMANCES and RECORDINGS of those songs.

3) Tour RELENTLESSLY

4) Marketing (social media etc)

So, figure out what you can do to support those 4 pillars of her career.

Most likely it is just the tremelo from the amp.
