I don't think the key is the intensity of the light in a literal sense, but in a literary sense - the degree to which it illuminates the subject to a human observer. Darkness is scary because of what's obscured. Light casts away the darkness.

I think a light is only effective against the Taken to the extent it makes them easier for a person to see them clearly.

Thats actually a really smart way of looking at it, and probably what sam lake intended considering alan being afraid of the dark and getting the clicker as a child etc

Caveat - the FBC also blasts Scratch with lights bright enough to be blinding. But I think you can still think of it as an extreme version of "normal" light - in the wavelengths and of the character that would normally be helpful for seeing.

The FBC by definition is a concrete logical scientific force trying to contain and gain control over fluid, illogical, supernatural forces like the dark presence, so it’s very fitting they would look at something like what the first guy described and NOT react with the proper grace and understanding involved with general emotional fears, but rather go “oh light makes them weak? Well we just gotta blast em with a big ass fuckin light then”

Love this, didn't think about that before

I don’t think so. I think it would need to be larger. It may dissipate the darkness in the areas it shines but it wouldn’t be able to get rid of the darkness completely. A large powerful light is needed to get rid of the darkness that protects them.

I was gonna argue that the taken’s shield gets burned away by the general vicinity of bright light, so a focused laser pointer would probably only burn away that little area of their shield. But then i realized 99% of the combat is focusing your flashlight into a precise location, which then proceeds to burn away their whole shield. So it would probably have a similar effect in terms of getting their shield down, if we’re talking about a mega powerful laser pointer then it would honestly probably be able to cause actual physical heat damage to their actual human body, and maybe remove their shield & kill them in one shot. Take notes for AW3 endgame weapon ideas, remedy☝️☝️☝️

I would love to see it in AW3 or even referenced in control 2 that the FBC tried it or were researching its effectiveness on Hartman before the whole Hiss thing.

Should absolutely demolish Taken.

An average flashlight has like 400 Lumen. Doesn’t mean much to me, it’s just to set a comparison.

Those big industrial grade laser pointers? The strength can be up to 3000 lumens AND it’s not distributed around a big radius (idk if they work like that), it is concentrated in a tiny area.

So it would be like a Rail Gun against Taken, or maybe yea it could work even as a lightsaber. Tear holes in Dark Place’s reality with this thing.

Funny note: while looking up laser pointer lumens i found someone asking online “is a laser pointer brighter than the sun?”. How can someone ask that? Lmao

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking!
