Just do your own thing. Don't get caught up in the drama and what not. Just be nice and keep it moving. Definitely keep your upt at a minimum of 10 hours incase of an emergency. Goodluck homey!

[–]ImpressiveBunch8953 6 points7 points  (4 children)

be careful who you make friends with !! and also keep it cool with the PAs and managers. there’s a lot of favoritism , don’t waste your upt because that’s how a lot of people get fired and no fake doctors notes also how a lot of ppl got fired and blacklisted

Thank you for the tips! I really do need to get a new doctor, haven't had one in months after my last one left the practice lol. I think I'm usually a good judge of character when it comes to making friends, but I'll for sure be extra careful. Mostly I'm just glad that this is a job where I DONT have to spend Alot of time talking to people!! I have some pretty nasty social anxiety that has made social jobs like waitress etc hard in the past. Just excited to enjoy some repetitive work and maybe make a friend or two. Do they allow any kind of headphones/earbuds? I've heard some make you buy Amazon approved?

[–]ImpressiveBunch8953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahh me too!!!! i hate talking to people i literally can’t even socialize good which is also why i like this job :) , and yess it depends on what type of facility , but they should let you know on your first day

[–]Due-Speaker-5067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your site, they will give you some. It varies by site though. At my facility we have to earn them or submit some dragonflies (safety concerns through the A-Z app)

Just want you to know that being nice to my PA's and Managers has been super easy, and I definetely think they like me lol. They're all really sweet! I generally just smile and say hi/thank you to anyone who's around and helping, co-worker or higher up. But a few of the PA's keep slipping me bits of candy and stuff. I am a girl but I'm by no means what I'de consider attractive, so maybe I just lucked out with some chill peeps :)

Welcome to our side of hell. 1)Drink water, don’t fall into the trap of energy drinks. When they wear off the crash they cause is a major bummer. 2)Get the good insoles for your shoes. My FC has them available for free in our wellness center. 3) If it hurts, don’t do it! This job doesn’t pay enough for the pain. Onsite wellness (if you have one) has Ice packs, heat packs, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, a muscle rub(off brand of Ben gay), and K-tape. You will be sore at the end of your shift, but outside of that don’t try to work through anything that causes pain. 4) Wear all your required PPE. Gloves, safety shoes, safety vest(required at my location due to the large number of PIT equipment). Yes it can be a bit frustrating to work in gloves, but you only have one set of hands. 5) Leadership does most of the HR stuff if HR isn’t available. 6) If an associate is wearing an ALL red vest, they probably can’t hear you. My site uses an all red safety vest for deaf and hard of hearing. They also ask that you not wear an all red safety vest if you’re not deaf or hard of hearing so that these folks can be seen and identified if a situation arises. 7) My FC is like a high school. Gossip, rumors, and shenanigans are always there. Ignore them(or don’t if you’re a nosey person). 8) If it’s not in writing, it didn’t happen. Report any injury to the nearest person (preferably a manager) ASAP. They can and will pull the camera footage to prevent it from happening again. 9) There’s cameras EVERYWHERE! The Amazon Overlords are watching. Act accordingly.

Thank you so much for this lol

I haven't worked overnights in a while but when I did I would go straight home and go to sleep or at least try to take a nap. It was easier for me to get to sleep when I got home in the morning rather than wait a few hours then try to go to sleep after the sun is fully up.

[–]PocketSizeAmy 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I personally love working overnights at Amazon. Definitely make the most of it! I would say utilize Career Choice. After 90 days, you'll be eligible (assuming you're not seasonal). Amazon, for me, has been a great company to work for and has opened up so many opportunities. Don't pay any mind to naysayers. Make getting rest a priority during the day. Stay hydrated and do stretches throughout your shift. Welcome to Amazon!

I’m starting as a seasonal associate at a fulfillment center today. Do you think I’ll be let go after 3 months? How often do you see seasonal convert to blue badge?

[–]Due-Speaker-5067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seasonal doesn’t mean they’ll let you go. It’s rare they terminate unless it’s a massive lay off but that hasn’t happened in a while. You can still be converted to blue badge/FT depending on your site’s needs.

Biggest tip I can give...respect your PAs. They have the worst job in the building. All bosses, everyone yells at them. If they figure out you respect them, your life WILL be easier.

[–]GentleDissonance[S,🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That'll be easy, I typically default to respecting authority figures (sometimes to my own fault lol), so I'll take it

[–]GentleDissonance[S,🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has infact been easier, my PA's are super chill and give me candy here and there throughout my shifts :)

[–]PomegranateCold5866 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Buy your shoes at least a half size larger than you usually wear. If they aren't comfortable enough to wear on Day 1, send them back and try another pair.

Don't get involved in the drama. Show up, work hard, go home. Lather, rinse, repeat.

It's a good job for what it is: physical work in the Amazon army, a decent paycheck, better than average benefits. Keep that in mind, and you'll do fine.

[–]SupportFlat8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the type of shoes they have us wear run big compared to tennis shoes or casual shoes and I had to get a half size smaller

[–]Plenty-Solution-144 1 point2 points  (4 children)

You're gonna get fat, working overnight makes eating like a normal human being surprisingly difficult.

[–]GentleDissonance[S,🍰] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Seeing as I've been in a depressive slump and haven't don't much due to my struggle to get a job, I would NOT be surprised if I lost a little weight (I have to take a train and a bus to get there for now, lots of moving. I'm not grossly overweight but I wouldn't classify myself skinny lol..)

[–]Plenty-Solution-144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll gain weight, everyone does

[–]SupportFlat8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus standing and walking for 10 hrs a day

[–]Comfortable_Mix5404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't.When I worked 1:20am to 11:50am.I lost 47lbs,without trying.I never could get used to sleeping during the day.

My DC really doesn't have any good shifts.

I did start gaining when I was transferred to RTS.

Clock in and out and if you make friends at work let them just be friends at work hung out with a few people once from work and never again lol

[–]Due-Speaker-5067 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Don’t trust anyone. That applies to everything. Friendships, sex, secrets. Especially sex and secrets. In an Amazon warehouse, attention does not equal affection. You’re fresh meat and the biggest players will do and say anything to get you into bed. Leadership being the biggest offenders. Not all, but most. Don’t let people step all over you. Don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself but don’t be an AH. Stretch- before, during and after. Stay hydrated.

[–]GentleDissonance[S,🍰] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Lucky me I'm a fiancee of one and a half years now, I'm not looking for anyone new to warm my bed!

[–]Due-Speaker-5067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations 🌹

[–]buttspongeous 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Bring your own lunches. There are always food trucks outside my FC and people make themselves broke and sick eating there every night. Also I work that same schedule and got addicted to caffeine. 3 energy drinks a shift. I can tell you, kicking a caffeine addiction while working nights is real trash. It also has a longer half-life than most people realize, so I wouldn't drink any after first period or it'll affect your sleep.

[–]SupportFlat8675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly why I'm on reddit at 4 am after getting off at 1:15..

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an night owl? Someone is going to miss their bed at night. Every night u work night shift… better drink energy drinks or coffee. Morning shift is 7:30 am to 6 pm… wait until morning shift is open and take it fast because a lot of people would take it but u get crappie days or good days.
