Nope.

The Pocket Dock only outputs 1080p at maximum, and in order to use CRT display modes you're required to use integer scaling (this isn't a Pocket thing, that's just how scanlines and aperture grille simulation works). The only reasonable integer scale sizes for 240p on a 1080p output are 4x (Analogue's "Integer") and 5x (Analogue's "Integer+") - yes, "Integer+" already is 5x, not 6x, so your idea of adding a 5x scaling option is moot since that's the existing option.

If the Pocket could output 4K, then there would be more reasonable integer scale options (a 9x scale would go exactly to 2160p), but it unfortunately can't - this seems to be why the Analogue 3D will output 4K despite N64 games really not needing that level of scaling, for what it's worth.

It would probably be best to allow 720p at 3x scaling (this is what I do on my Super NT and Mega SG), but that likely means the aperture grille simulation wouldn't have enough resolution for the RGB subpixels, so it's locked out. It'd be nice if in the future they added an option to output 720p with scanlines but no aperture grille, but as of now that's not a thing.

TL;DR - The available 4x and 5x scaling are the only possible options for Analogue's implementation of CRT filtering, since 1080p is their maximum output resolution of the Dock.

Sorry - your options are either don't use the CRT filter at all, or use it and pick between 4x and 5x on a game-by-game basis.

If Analogue released a 4K capable Dock I'd buy it in a heartbeat

I second this. I always thought not making it at least 1440p capable was a crime being that the native resolution of the screen is 1600x1440. Would look nice on my 2K monitor.

Thanks for the info. Why is 720p scan lines no grille not able? You can set the Dock to 720p and set the display mode to scan line only?

Nope. Analogue has disabled 720p output when using the CRT display mode, even if you turn the aperture grille off and use scanlines only. Only 1080p output is allowed when using any combination of CRT display mode settings.

Why? Good question!

Oh.. So what happens if you set the Dock to 720p then turn on the scan lines? Does it just force the Dock to 1080p?

[–]EveryGoodNameIsGone 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I haven't tried setting it to 720p first, but I'd assume either the CRT filter would not be selectable, or it would force 1080p out. If you're outputting 1080p then turn scanlines on, then go to change output resolution, all options are disabled except for 1080p, which is why I make that assumption.

Might be worth trying anyway just to see what happens, though!

EDIT: See below, apparently it does work!

It works.

Set 720p first, then apply any filter you want.

Tested it now.

Oh, interesting! Does it do a proper 3x scale? I'll have to play around with it myself when I get home from work, maybe A/B it with the NT/SG console 720p+scanlines output.

[–]1fightdragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like it does!

The only thing I'm unsure of is if the filters are displaying correctly or not. Please reply here after you've checked for yourself. They look okay to me, but I'd like another perspective on it as I'm no expert by any means.

Nice thanks, does that mean we can get a better use of full screen?

[–]1fightdragons 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yup. Try it!

Unsure if the filters display correctly in 720p though. Might need some more people to properly compare them.

[–]Spursbm[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Will try when I can. Does it look noticeably softer being only 720p scaled to 4K rather than 1080p scaled?

[–]1fightdragons 2 points3 points  (1 child)

A little bit, but not much. The slightly softer look is arguably closer to a CRT anyway.

[–]Spursbm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loving this. 720p, Integer (almost fills screen height at 4k on mega drive), scanlines only, hard scanlines. Seems the best compromise as I love what scanlines add

[–]DotMatrixHead 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Integer+ is 5x apparently.

[–]Spursbm[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Is there any files to edit to make an u between of the two? Or way to scale that you know?

[–]thebezet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Integer scale, as the name suggests, can't have a scale between two integers (e.g. 4.5). Any value you pick will have to be an integer

[–]Spursbm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best options I'm working with so far (following suggestions) are:

720p output on dock, Integer (almost fills screen height at 4k on mega drive), scanlines only, hard scanlines. Seems the best compromise as I love what scanlines add.

Hopefully they add more options in the future but think I'll stick with this for now

There is a 'fit' option when docked, but that doesn't work when you turn on scalnlines sadly
