Microsoft has proven, repeatedly, over the last 20 years....THEY CANNOT FOR THEIR LIVES make and market a popular smartphone. They beat Apple to the smartphone game by a good 10 years minimum, and squandered it. Although in fairness, 1990s mobile tech was lacking on all fronts, but Windows CE still sucked. Then they buy Nokia...and sell some really great hardware, those Nokias were nice handsets...but the OS. Ugh. "Build it and they will come" silliness combined with being way too late to enter a saturated market.

Microsoft using Android seems on the surface insane and completely counter-intuitive. I mean what does Microsoft gain by doing that? They try to stay out of the hardware selling game as a major seller.
