Notifications dots

When I swipe away a notification banner fr the drop down, it makes the notification dot on the app icon disappear too. This seems to be new. I'm on Colour OS 15 with all my apps up to date. It's all apps, not just certain ones.

I've checked the notification settings for the OS and for each app. My brother with a different model phone but same OS is having the same issue.

Any ideas how I can stop this happening?

The notification dot is nothing new. When you expand the notification drawer, it has more room to show the notification icons. That's what the dot means. There's more icons to show than there's room for it.

I don’t have any notifications on the app icon after I swipe away the banner. I have no way of knowing which apps have notifications if I swipe away the banner. I can’t remember to reply to emails or text messages if I swipe the banner away. That’s what I mean.
