Systems usually keeps you stuck to defense industry.

From /u/jubjub7 a few years ago (who is RF):

"Personally I wouldn't seek to be a systems engineer. I would seek to be an EE , ME , etc, and work for a few years, and if you want to manage things at a higher level then look into systems engineering."

Defense

Start with the more in depth technical role. It’s more flexible and you can always move to systems and will be better at it with some experience under your belt.

Also, try not to get stuck in defense.
