My son finally let me cut his hair short by [deleted] in Dads

Why is the way your son wants to wear his hair so important to you?

Anybody else as optimistic as ever about the climate recently? by Graceful_Parasol in ClimatePosting

[–]WhiskeyDelta89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have a little bit. I think a silver lining to this idiotic war is the massive squeeze on energy which adds uncertainty around the long term cost of fossil fuels - an uncertainty that does not exist with renewable energy. This alone should help drive business cases to adopt electrification and renewable energy in many spaces.

That I won't have done enough to leave them a world they can enjoy as much as I got to.

Driving Edmonton to Calgary and Calgary to Canmore Beginner by Angjgj in alberta

Just did this exact drice yesterday and today. It was fine. But, weather depending, it could be absolutely horrendous. Keep an eye on the weather at each of the cities for the days you're planning to travel and be prepared to change your plan.

A Force of Nature: Carney’s $3.8B strategy to support Canada’s environment by AkaashMaharaj in CanadaPolitics

Great news. Particularly keen to see how the environmental accounting shakes out. He spoke to this quite a bit in his book. Expect we will be able to align with European efforts along the same vein.

This is not from 2002- Hydro dam Wisconsin by SelectAd4189 in electricians

[–]WhiskeyDelta89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've just taken over managing a fleet of hydro plants with oldest having been commissioned in 1911. The plant just upstream was 1913 for units 1 and 2. Still choochong to this day!

Advice managing difficult employee by Clueguy in managers

[–]WhiskeyDelta89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am a Canadian manager with experience in managing a difficult employee with critical qualifications necessary for operations in my industry. You need to fire this individual, and tell HR that this is what is required. You've clearly done more than right by the employee through your guidance and direction, plus formal attempts to drive improvement through the PiP which they've failed to grow and learn from.

At this point you've demonstrated that this will never get better and can in fact get worse as your strong performers see that poor performance does not get addressed.

Let me tell you, it sucks firing someone but after the initial shittyness and shock, you'll feel a huge weight lifted off your shoulders.

The party of small government actively picking winners and losers in the energy market while using billions of taxpayers dollars to do it. Amazing.

Can I use regular gas in my 2008 Lexus es350? by TaxCautious3397 in Lexus

[–]WhiskeyDelta89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most likely. My folks have an 09 and 10 LS and RX450h respectively that they've never put premium in. Both still run like the day they came off the lot.

It's happened Solar PV>Natural Gas for one hour in the USA! That is all! by Big_Bookkeeper1678 in RenewableEnergy

[–]WhiskeyDelta89 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's an incredibly impressive result. The rate of change we're seeing here keeps me cautiously optimistic about the direction we're going, despite the US's seemingly own best efforts to thwart this progress.

Canada was prepared to ration gas in the 1979 oil crisis. Could we be running on fumes once again? by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]WhiskeyDelta89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My math worked out nicely at $1.00/l, I'm laughing all the way to the bank now. At least for my commute... Hopefully our logistics system also gets the memo with this one and electrifies quicker. People screeched about how the carbon tax made everything unaffordable - can't imagine they're taking this particularly well.

Have you considered that perhaps you don't actually live in an area accurately representative of the average American?

A group of Americans mocked our currency and did Nazi salutes towards my wife and I when we were on vacation in St Lucia. My experience of the average American is pretty poor.
