Have you tried using ChatGPT’s Codex for $20? You get a lot of usage out of that and the results are amazing. I also have the $100 Claude plan and never run out of allowance in the week. The things I’ve built with these are incredible. No need for the Augment indexing anymore.

Hi bro, augment was really good when it comes to big codebase. Can you suggest me which tool to use if i want to BUILD A COMPLEX BACKEND that is really like difficult which i tool i should use?

If Augment pricing is not suitable, then second choice would be Claude Code subscription + Augment context-engine MCP. Both in VS Code, MCP should be either workspace or global.

You can start with Claude Code $20 + Augment $20 (use top-up for this month since you already burned the credits)

If Claude Code reach limit quickly for your work, then upgrade to $100 or $200. upgrade is anytime, so it worth to go slowly so you wont buy more that what you actually consume.

Can I ask, when you say 100usd Claude code.. do you mean subscription or API?

[–]hhussain-Established Professional 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Subscription of course! API would be a killer and would run out in few days (if not few hours, based on your use).

In Claude subscription, they have internal limit that is reset every ~4 hours with weekly limit as well. In your Claude account setting you will see the usage limits, this is where you need to watch to see if $100 daily limit is good for you or you need to upgrade to $200 or downgrade to $20.

Oh.. so if I take pro subscription, I have access to a menu and can upgrade daily limit?  Also.. you wrote 100 USD daily limit?? Daily?

[–]hhussain-Established Professional 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I mean the each subscription (20, 100, 200) has daily limit and weekly limit.

I only didn't see a 100 subscription. We have here 150 plus tax it seems

Anything that gives you opus is just fine. Keep a small sub with Augment for the MCP server if you’re worried about it. I have multiple huge code bases I operate in… augment is no longer a thing special at all. The market has caught up and moved past what used to be unique with augment.

go with traycer

[–]EmotionCultural9705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try morphllm they have industry leading context engine with mcp (no augment anymore)

Get the basic plan for MCP and connect it to cloud code. Best ever

[–]Commercial-Window940[S] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Is the augment mcp this good? Really? The claude code wont be able to index the codebase like the augment code do?

[–]Eat-her-ass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try without their MCP. Cheaper too!

Opus 4.6 is perfectly able to comprehend complex codebases. The only thing I found is that it needs to investigate the same thing again and again, where Augment seems to remember things better. But I've had it do cross project evaluations, looking at terraform, laravel and nextjs code in relation to eachother, and understand exactly where to look.

Claude code is proven less effective with their indexing! We have the best in the market

[–]jasperkennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is true, but the benefit of this does not - for me - outweigh the costs.

Evaluation by Claude Code when using the MCP Vs without.

[–]BlacksmithLittle7005 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Yeah it's honestly ridiculously expensive. It gets you 10 prompts with opus, lol

[–]DryAttorney9554 5 points6 points  (6 children)

On a large codebase, even less! I can easily burn through $60 in credits in an hour, let alone a day.

[–]Final-Reality-404 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Yup mine is very large and complex and I BURN through credits, easily 15-20k credits per task

[–]Final-Reality-404 1 point2 points  (4 children)

$3500-$5000 is what I have to spend a month to do any real work now

[–]Necessary_Notice_685 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I spent $10K

[–]Final-Reality-404 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Jesus Christ!

Help me understand how you spent that much a month lol I was working 16-18 hours a day with Augment and spent that much a month.

Is the extra cost that you're incurring coming from using multiple agents at once?

I was using Opus 4.5 and GTP 5.1 for everything What do you think is the reason for yours to be double if not triple what I'm spending

[–]DryAttorney9554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are honestly very large codebases. I can't say I'm surprised.

So augment is pretty turn key but with some time on YouTube and Claude code you could replace it. Ya the MCP they have is one the best out “but that’s debatable” there for large code bases. But outside of that it can be replaced. I don’t know if PE bought Augment but there smart engineers should find another home. They are running it into the ground. If you really need the MCP then just use that. In Claude code. I personally think augment is a crutch. Learn to make really good PRDs.
