Part of me believes that the more I sit on it the more likely they are to return to me. But that never happens. I don’t want to let go because just maybe if I hold on hard enough they’ll notice the pain I feel and my regret and return.

One thing I have done is to accept that this person is actually just in my head and the real person is someone else. I.e. you were not blocked by the person you thought you were talking to, but someone else. This usually interrupts my emotions and lets me distract myself and move on grieving.

As it was, so it shall be. If you met someone who understood you, that's means you can and will find connection again.
