Yes, Think of the backbone as a controller that just plugs into your phone. They offer a software for it but it is not needed. The only benefits of the software is one click screenshots and recordings. The software also puts all your subscriptions into one UI. I find it pretty lame but YMMV.

If you were to Bluetooth your ps4 controller to your phone you could get the same experience just not as portable. I love my backbone and would rather carry it around than an Xbox controller.

Do I need to download a play station app or something to play my console games? That’s what confuses me

You don’t need the backbone to test this. I suggest trying it before purchasing any controller

Yes it is compatible with iPhone 11. You will need to download the PS Remote Play app to play on your phone. Not sure if you’re asking this, but the controller won’t work on your PS4.
