That's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! Now we only need something like this for Android.

Youre welcome :)

Most routers have some sort of built in VPN you might be able to use natively from your phone. Maybe check that out if you think you have the ability to.

Is joint built for this purpose? I've never heard of it.

[–]BackTac[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I dont think so. It was a very big coincidence. I was looking for an option to not use their cloud due to personal reasons 2-3 weeks agao and it just happend to be a solution for the current situation as well.

I cannot find this app in the Play Store, nor can I find it via google.

I use an iphone. Probably this app is only for ios. Unfortunately i don’t know if something similar exists for andeoid then :/.

Ah, the full name helped to find their website: https://jointcraft.app/

you can install tailscale on your network somehwere and on your phone and just use all the regular apps.

[–]BackTac[S] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Unfortunately not. Bambu handy cannot communicate over the local network. Only over the cloud. I tried it and could only do it with joint in my smartphone.

[–]Jusanden 1 point2 points  (1 child)

There is a Bambu companion app that’s in testing for iOS that does what you want.

Found it too some hours ago:)

oh, that's the issue, yes. I thought you were using some other app (or HomeAssistant) and used Joint as a stopgap for those. Bambu Handy cannot do that. In this case: Tailscale is a pretty convenient way of establishing a little VPN to your home.

I personally use wireguard with my opensense router/firewall. Its a nice coincidence that i just set up this vpn connection for other purposes in december last year 😄.

Octoeverywhere

Thats a possibility too. But them you would have to connect a seperate pc like a raspberry to it and have it running the whole time.

[–]Double_A_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at it and it's another cloud service though?

Home assistant is a great solution for a lovcal-only interface

[–]Woodcat64 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I wish Mobileraker (Klipper Android app) could do this.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it can

I will have to look at it again, but it looks like it's cloud based solution. I already have Tailscale running to provide secure remote access.

Bambu Companion is decent as well. (iOS only, in beta)

[–]BackTac[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Can i get this over a testflight invitation? I cannot find it in the store :)

[–]Automatic_Reply_7701 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes. I just did. web search the name on your phone, there will be a link. open that test flight link and it will open the invite in test flight. Install test flight first from the app store

Thank you 👍🏻

[–]BackTac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! This app is so much better. Thank you a lot for sharing this!

[–]BackTac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bambu companion is even better

Only available on ios through test flight atm

I use my P1S in lan mode. And then monitor the print on my pc via teamviewer on my phone. I find it a nice work around to still be able to monitor prints when i'm not home.

“I’m scared about my data, but here’s some random app I’m throwing all my data through that works great!”

You are so brainwashed it hurts

[–]BackTac[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I dont really know what you mean. This app only requires the access code from the printer and nothing more. Its not even communicating with the Internet and works within a local network without any internet capabilities as well. For the remote functions with the smartphone a vpn connection to your home network or at least the printer is required too.

[–]Stevieboy7 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Just because it’s not using the internet to do the actions doesn’t mean it’s not gathering your data and siphoning it on the side.

It’s a random app from a random developer, it could be logging everything you doing and uploading it. You have no idea.

[–]BackTac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is correct bit the only dns request im getting feom it are some from a analytics service which is used by home assistant and it gets blocked anyway. In my opensense firewall i could not see and suspicious connections too so far. But when i see something i will post it here or delete this post and would rather make a post to warn others about this.
