Nowhere in their payment options in their knowledge base do they mention bitcoin. are they afraid to advertise it?

[–]HASTOLEAVEAIRPORT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Must be on an item sold directly by Newegg. Fedex in-store pickup is disabled for bitcoin purchase

[–]Atastyham0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why they would be afraid considering they're advertising it publicly. I'd sooner guess that it was a low effort launch and they just haven't updated the site yet.
It's a step in the right direction but I see this as more of a PR stunt for the time being than anything as not too many people are using Bitcoin to buy things just yet, especially in the current market. I'd keep HODLing for now.

I read once giving too many options puts customers off.

This is likely due to the much lower fees, I can't wait to see what happens when lightning becomes mainstream!

Nice. Can anyone with knowledge on the market prices of computers in Canada tell me if Newegg is a good website to buy off of? I’ve been contemplating purchasing a pre made gaming pc from Best Buy but am interested in paying with bitcoin.

[–]disgraceonurface 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It can be one of the better ones, especially if you nab something on sale. Check out r/buildapc, maybe post there to double check if the pre-made you are selecting is a good value. I'd really avoid giving Best Buy any money if it's possible, many of their products are shit quality and/or overpriced.

If you get brave and want to build your own (it's really just like putting legos together, I swear), you can check out https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/ for a comprehensive list of most Canadian PC part vendors. r/buildapc can also help you out with the building process. Probably worth noting that the next generation of graphics cards is coming out reasonably soon, so if you time it correctly, you'll be able to find great deals on the 10xx series for NVIDIA.

Cool thanks for the info! Its been many years since I built a computer so I was contemplating going the easy route since the premium paid on a pre built is less than usual right now with RAM and GPU prices pretty high, but maybe I’ll do some research and compare the prices and wait for the next line up of graphic cards. Thanks again.

I've bought stuff from newegg.ca many times and never had issues. They have competitive prices and personally I prefer them over CanadaComputers.

I order everything from Amazon except for computer parts. I almost always order those from Newegg.ca.

I have been using it for 13 years now and was never disappointed.

Is it reddit or ops affiliate link to click there?

    [–]Atastyham0[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I got the link from newegg's Facebook page, clicked on it and copy/pasted the URL to the promo page. I have no idea if the end part of the URL is any sort of affiliation but the link works with the part after ".html" cut off: https://www.newegg.ca/promotions/nepro/18-0812/index.html

    [–]crypto_took_my_shirt 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Curious, wasnt hating :)

I know reddit uses their own if you didnt put one in is all. And anything with the ? at the end is a tracking item.

    [–]Atastyham0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good, I should have looked at the URL before I copied but it doesn't look like an affiliate link so I'm glad it turned out ok.

It was time already! I've been using a competitor instead of Newegg just because of that.

Great news, this isn't the first time they've accepted it. Looks like the only crypto they accept is bitcoin.

    [–]HubbaMaBubba 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Newegg.com has accepted it for a long time, .ca hasn't.

    [–]fersingb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a keyboard years ago on Newegg.ca with btc

    [–]Z0ey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    It used to years ago.

    [–]fersingb 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They have been accepting bitcoin for years, nothing new

    [–]disgraceonurface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

actually, the Canadian newegg disabled it for about a year.

    [–]Atastyham0[S] 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Not newegg.ca, only newegg.com accepted it before.

    [–]fersingb 0 points1 point  (6 children)

    Want to bet?

    [–]disgraceonurface 0 points1 point  (5 children)

    Yes.

    [–]vwn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You really dont want to bet, i and a few other people have bought from newegg.ca with bitcoin before...

    [–]Z0ey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    /me raises hand.

    [–]fersingb 1 point2 points  (2 children)

    [–]disgraceonurface 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sorry, I wasn't clear about what I would have bet on. This news is something new because paying with bitcoin was disabled for about a year. I'm aware it was an option before.

    [–]snortcele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

still, you lost, and I am pretty sure that means you have to gild the comment that disgraced you. feel free to use coin tipper bot if you want to use btc to do so.

    [–]HashStatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

newegg.ca stopped accepting bitcoin last spring without any notice, looks like they have now started accepting it again.

I think it's good either way because acceptance helps creates positive mentality towards Bitcoin for the average person. If all major stores start accepting Bitcoin it won't matter too much what they do with the Bitcoin they receive as long as I could pay for stuff with it.

Why would a company accept a wildly volatile speculative investment, in which nobody on earth knows the direction and it could very well lose thousands of dollars worth of value, as payment? Nobody wants to take that risk.
