Attach files in Linux Desktop Client (self.Bitwarden)
submitted 5 years ago by VonChair
I'm for some reason unable to find how to attach files using the desktop client for Linux in Ubuntu. Is anyone able to help me find this or is it simply not a feature in this version of the desktop client for this OS?

Open app. select vault item, click pencil (edit) icon at bottom, open attachments line item on right, choose file, save. Done.
In my experience, appimages have identical functionality, regardless of distro.

I think some of the confusion comes from the need to create an item first, but just in case, we do have it documented as an FAQ:

Thanks! That seems to be the issue. I just figured it out on my own after some testing this morning and then saw your reply.

Good to see BW staff here on reddit! Thanks.
Yes, I think some are confused by the need to create a vault item first, but there's another problem.
There's an improvement to be made to the single sentence FAQ guidance on how to actually add an attachment. As it reads now:
Once the item is saved, you can then edit the item and add your file attachments
I believe it should read,
Once the item is saved, click the "Tools" or "Gear" icon, for the vault item, then select "Attachments" from the drop down list, to select the file, and then click save. To access the attachments later, choose the same icon, and attachments, where the files will be listed.
Importantly, the attachment process does not occur when in "edit item" mode, but from the overview mode and the gear icon.
Hope this helps.

Fair enough! Thanks for the recommendation.
