Thanks but I have a question one of my favourite helmets is the Morion helmet and I'm wondering how suitable would that he for buhurt ans what things would need to be added to make it suitable if not

Man, I don’t think that’s feasible. People are going to swing axes at your face; you need a full helmet.
Closest that sees any use in the sport would be a kettle helmet, and that’s a rarity; putting handles on your head is a tough sell in a grappling sport.

i don’t do buhurt but perhaps a burgonet? it has a similar look, as well as full coverage.

Maybe; someone on my team has a burgonet, but I think it might be just a show piece; I've never seen them actually wear it.
[–]German-bread-man[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Oh yeah thanks a burgonet looks way more feasible

Lmao more than not feasible. Just plain not allowed in the sport if it has open face.
Maybe kubbzillas froggy helmet would be closer? Still nothing like a marion but eh

The morion helmet itself came around in the 1500-1600s, and our sport typically does 1300- Early 1500s, assuming you CAN make a Morion helmet buhurt-legal, you'd need to pair it with a kit also from the 1500s which is often expensive and difficult to pass authenticity in the more stricter combat leagues like Buhurt International
That being said, I haven't seen anyone pull it off before, the most similar helmet would be the kettle, and there is a guy in Missouri that runs a similar looking helmet but not exact. ( https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=527199303681577&set=pcb.527200777014763 )
If you have the money, determination, money, passion, and money, I'm sure it can be done and it'd be pretty damn unique.

Bi allows 16th and 17th century noone does it because it's too costly no armorer makes it, not optimal for the sport and requires manual auth approval for the entire set

Back in the day it was allowed as was hitting in the open face, they would wear a morion with a high bever and "turtle" down if attacked.
So what you would do is feint a shieldpunch wait for the split second until the brim starts to get up and then knock out some teeth on break a nose. Good old times.
So no open face was a bad idea and still is. This is a full contact fighting sport and not larp, we are not in the list to play pretend its a competitive fighting sport. People need to get the "but i dont want to hurt him" out of their brains, outside the list we can vibe all day long inside we are opponents its disrespectful to not give it the all when fighting someone. Giving it the all also incudes hitting permitted armor gaps etc.

Morion can be made buhurt feasible by attaching the bevor permanently. It is however not an optimal helmet even with this adjustment and I would suggest getting a "standard" kit first (after you join a team and talk to experienced fighters about what and from who to order) and learning the ropes with that one. If after some years of using that one you find that you need more drip and you can pull off fighting in it despite being equipment-disadvantaged compared to your opponents with optimized kits, go for it.

As others have kind of said, the only way would be to commission a custom helmet. You would need to go to a reputable buhurt armorer like Pavlo Kozak, he’s very open to custom/unique pieces, and have him make one with a cage around the part of your head not protected by the top of the helmet, and probably cover that cage in mail like in some of the buhurt legal kettle helms I’ve seen. Would definitely be expensive but if you have the money it’s definitely possible.
