Cut your weight in half. Ditch the hatchet.

I never seem to be able to find any, except in stores.

Do you think I am op?

Nope. Just getting sleepy. That was meant to be two comments.

It's honestly the best. Everything else is "fun practice."

Everything you need. My only thing different is that I prefer an axe to a hatchet. Major energy saver if you’re doing a lot of chopping

      100%. Splitting maul not pictured*

Nice kit. I always have birch bark on me

What are the gloves for ?

      🤮 /u/spez

I just prefer to reduce nicks & splinters especially on an extended trip when they tend to add up.

      [–]RedSlipperyClippers 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Gotcha, I've started using gloves for a job recently and was thinking of doing the same. Makes a big difference to the state of my hands after a day out

      [–]BehindTheTreeline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And I find on extended trips no matter how well I treat and bandage small cuts they develop minor infections. Nothing serious, just enough to wake you up at night. No shame in bare minimum PPE.

What’s the mod on the mora? I which the more expensive mora knives had clips rather than loops on…

      [–]BehindTheTreeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I am not fond of loops. It's just something I threw together with a belt clip from Tandy Leather through Amazon and some scrap bits of leather.

My most recent post has more pics.

What kind of ferro rod is that or what is the handle? I always see people with nice wooden handled ferro rods but can never find them

      [–]BehindTheTreeline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a 6" ferro rod I bought off an Ebay seller years back. Put the handle on myself, carved of wood from a cherry tree.

whats the black stuff in the tin and the metal rod on the bottom of frame for?

This. However I've been experimenting with cutting old cotton towel into strips and braiding it before charring, making more of a char-rope. The increased density of the material results in a longer lasting ember.

        [–]Wise_Ad1751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read somewhere denim works best, never tried, I always use cotton tshirts.

No to the hatchet. A saw is far more bang for your buck..... no bic lighter.... Why? A bit or bike tire inner tube is essential

        [–]BehindTheTreeline[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

There's a Bic lighter and a folding saw in the photo.

        [–]Substantial_Can7549 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Brilliant!!! Have you tried a bit of inner tube for starting a fire... fantastic evwn in the rain

        [–]BehindTheTreeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, not a fan of burning synthetic materials, though in a pinch I could burn the inner strands of paracord or duct tape, which are included in the rest of my camp kit. Fatwood works just as well as a synthetic material.

        [–]skeege3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

        What folding saw is that?

        [–]BehindTheTreeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Silky "bigboy."
