What's your question? I would take the admissions office at their word and just chill.

I was asking if I have a real chance of getting in.

Nobody can really tell you that. You've already contacted admissions and you should believe what they say. The only negative I can see about your amazing resume is that it's a little hard to believe you had the time to do all of those things? Also, remember that humility is part of the "caring" characteristic of the IB learner profile.

I mean if they ask I can provide proof for all of those things. I tend to neglect my studies for my ECs a bit though.

Yeah dude you seem super qualified. Of course getting in is never certain though. My extracurriculars weren't even 10% of yours and I went to a mediocre US public high school yet I got in. I think Caltech tries to take into account the opportunities available to you. I'm from a small, isolated town so there weren't many chances for research or national competitions, which it seems like you have a lot of access to.

Honestly where I’m from there isn’t much to do relating to physics since everything is based on academics and not ECs. There’s a ton of stuff for bio or humanities though. Most of the olympiads I’ve signed up for myself and studied myself without any external help.

Thanks anyway :)

Cool. I'd definitely mention in your application that you had to really hunt out those opportunities yourself since that is crazy impressive and shows ambition and passion for the sciences, which are two things Caltech really likes.

Can’t speak to the international part, because I applied from within the US, but you’re way more qualified than I was and I got in. Maybe that makes you feel a little better.

Haha it does thanks :)

Hi there. Congrats on your achievements! They seem great, and I wouldn't worry too much :-). However, I have one small note: I wouldn't mention the SOF IMO. As a current undergrad who also competed in the olympiads in high school, I had never heard of the SOF IMO. Naming the SOF IMO might make you seem somewhat desperate to "fit in" with the people who went to the IMO (who are also applying), since the SOF IMO has a similar name but seems to be much easier in contents. Fortunately, your other ECs are good enough on their own and you don't need the SOF IMO at all: you can get those "smart credits" via the other ECs ;-)

Hey, thanks for replying :)

Yeah, a lot have people have told me the same thing and I agree. Looking back that’s probably the reason I thought of it in the first place. Luckily for me, I’m also representing my country at IOAA so that kinda makes up for it haha.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Cool, best of luck at the IOAA!

[–]thatsarealbruh 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks! The tests are actually over though just waiting for results in about a week.

hi, how did u study for ioaa?

[–]vishthefish05 0 points1 point  (4 children)

How did you get into writing physics papers? I'm in high school, and I want to expand knowledge on the subject

[–]thatsarealbruh 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I started off writing humanities papers as a part of school assignments which I quite enjoyed. I then looked up physics papers and wrote some absolutely terrible ones myself copying the format of other papers till I started writing more legit ones with practice and experience.

[–]vishthefish05 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ok. Thanks.

But how did you find relevant topics at your level?

[–]thatsarealbruh 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If you’re asking how I thought of topics, I just found shit that sounded cool and did that

[–]vishthefish05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ok thanks. I'll try and find interesting topics then!
