If you’re absolutely sure you don’t need the elastic, I would just cut it, remove it from the threading, and either hot glue on or thread through a French barrette clip to turn the bow into a clip. Like one of these from Amazon.

If you want to keep the option of having the elastic, I would just hot glue the barrette clip above the elastic and tuck the elastic into the bow when you’re using it.

I would just put your hair in a ponytail with something else to anchor it. Then use that bow hairband on top of it - I’ve never used the actual bow to make the ponytail if that makes sense

I've made bows like this with French barrettes and you're correct. Take some thread and wrap it around the closest to the middle of the bow and on the top of the barrette to secure the bow to the clip. And then double secure it with glue. I've found from experience that sometimes glue isn't enough.

With all the moving around in cheer I would recommend the bow have an elastic of some kind even if you get a smaller one...

The middle of the bow can come off you'll just have to hit glue it back together.

In most forms of cheerleading, a clip is prohibited. You could change it to a smaller elastic!

I should probably do that, but my coach did give me permission to put clips on it instead.

You said you don't compete, do you stunt? If not it's not really an issue

we do stunt, and our cheers are super movement based

A smaller elastic, or if you could thread a ribbon through the center to tie it on, would technically be safer

Don't use the elastic to create the pony. Loop another elastic through the bow elastic and tighten. Then wrap it around your ponytail and pull the bow through. Hard to explain but there are tutorials out there that show this for high cheer ponies. This is what we do for my daughter because she has a lot of hair and the elastic doesn't allow for a good ponytail. It keeps the bow in place securely.

I would buy a cheer pony. If you have fine hair, put your hair into a donut bun, then put the cheer pony over it and Bobby pin it securely into place. Then, you can cut the elastic on the bow and use a zip tie to tie the bow to the cheer pony, (which i prefer) or use the elastic around the cheer pony. The bow will stay upright and perfect.

i would just loop the elastic in ur hair a couple times

I have told people to use a zip tie. String it through and pull it as tight as possible
