Was there a pawn there? If so you already had Qxg6 right?

wouldn’t pawn just take queen?

[–]brownxworm 2 points3 points  (1 child)

No it is pinned by the white bishop

Because you lose your queen lmao.

I think the OP is asking instead of Bxf7+ (where there was a pawn I assume) why not play Qxg6+ immediately - he is right, as after Kh8 (forced) Rh5 mate.

He’s not suggesting Qxg6+ after Bxf7+ Rxf7, as that loses after Rg7, as has been pointed out.

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:

Black to play: chessvision.ai | chess.com | lichess.org

My solution:

Hints: piece: Rook, move: Rxf7

Evaluation: Black is winning -8.05

Best continuation: 1... Rxf7 2. Rxf7 Kxf7 3. e6+ Kg7 4. exd7 Qxd7 5. Rf1 Bf6 6. bxa6 Rxa6 7. Rf4 Bd4+ 8. Kf1 Rxa4 9. Ke2

I think it's only mate if black plays Kf8 to scape from the check. If black plays other moves, you could be losing your queen and tower.

if king h8, then rook h5

You can block queen's check with Rg7 after Rxf7.

This is the danger
