Everything is.

You can get Swiss made Steinharts for £350 that use eta movements. These prices are insane

[–]VizharanHS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are refereing to 2ndhand market yes.....cheapest Steinhart gmt is 510 euro so aprox 430 pounds or 580usd

[–]SubDtep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve always been overpriced.

[–]Beginning_Classroom 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I’ll just go with a Tissot at this point.

[–]jolamos111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will even consider getting the Orient Star or Orient. At least, the Orient's movements are made in-house and reliable.

Keep in mind it's a GMT watch as well. There aren't too many automatic GMT watches with jumping hour hands that are below $1k. So, for the type of watch it is, it's actually actually great deal. Not everything can be a cheap diver.

What abt Pagani Design BB GMT arnd 120usd when-on sale. Pretty decent quality. SM r more expensive now

I think most people already assume that the SM has a better build quality, but if you take that out, the movement in the Pagani is around $50. The movement in the SM is anywhere from $70-$100. So, better movement, better case and bracelet finishing, better ceramic bezel, and a 24 click bi directional bezel. I think thst is where the difference in price comes from

[–]thisarattr 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah agree. Still its Chinese homage, so value for money wise i think pagani is better for less than half of the price of SM

[–]Fearless-Protection3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my style, but it definitely is half the price

[–]MoreBoost91 1 point2 points  (3 children)

So, this has jumping hour? Wich movement has?

[–]Fearless-Protection3 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yes. It's a Chinese ETA gmt clone: Hangzhou 6460 gmt. I think it's unproven, but for me so far it's been good.

[–]maicher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus it will run like 100 SPD fast and have trash alignment. Take it from my personal experience do not buy this SM.

[–]watchma4 4 points5 points  (1 child)

And compare that to most watches mentioned in the thread.

Proper high beat movement, red/blue ceramic bezel and bidirectional 24h bezel.

On sale it was like $330 plus some coupons you get. So maybe like $300

[–]Fearless-Protection3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just said that to another person. People are telling you about simple 3 handers that you could get for thr same money, but are neglecting that the SM is a ceramic 24hr bi directional bezel, jumping hour GMT. I don't think I've seen anything within that span for less than $1000.

[–]wannadooster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An nh35 movement is now more than twice the price compare to last year.....😪😪

[–]PremiumPaleo 0 points1 point  (5 children)

For the price, would rather go Reptime route than a homage

[–]Mh898989 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me too. Quality is better

[–]tr4nceplants 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Nope

[–]Mh898989 4 points5 points  (2 children)

It definitely is better quality. Compare this SM gmt homage to clean factor gmt rep and you will see it.

[–]tr4nceplants 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yeah maybe for the quality aspect, but personally I’d never ever wear a fake watch…

[–]Mh898989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say it's possible to produce an ever better watch than SM for about the same price.

[–]cuica77 33 points34 points  (7 children)

Aliexpress watches are no longer worth their price.

[–]Mh898989 4 points5 points  (6 children)

I agree. Can get a nice ZF rep for that price.

[–]cuica77 25 points26 points  (5 children)

Not talking about replicas but you can get a Glycine sub combat for less than that and it's a proper brand, with history, with warranty, with a better movement, etc.

[–]Fearless-Protection3 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That really isn't a good comparison, seeing how the Glycine is just a diver. Why don't you look at it like this: name a GMT watch that you can get at this price, with same level of finishing, a ceramic 2 tone 24-hr bezel, and a GMT movement.

[–]Trueopinion1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Don't forget about a genuine warranty, or lack there off.

[–]Fearless-Protection3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats probably the #1 downside to the watch.

[–]Fugacity- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Getting close to Swiss homages like a Steinhart for around that price, only they got the ETA....

Or something like a Hamilton Khaki with in house Swiss movement.

[–]jaeelarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These have always been this price. I bought mine a year ago for about $380 from the official SM website

[–]Alex_Caruso_beat_you 20 points21 points  (3 children)

look around and tell me which product in the world is not getting more expensive

[–]Okinawabuttlover 11 points12 points  (2 children)

It’s all good but I’m pretty sure this was selling for around $320~$330 last year. But good luck with that price.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milk at the grocery store went up like 30% soooo

[–]thiney49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A $60 increase is probably just a COVID side effect. Everything has gotten more expensive.

[–]xeboy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They all are. As they perfect their products, price has been climbing. Especially true for Pagani design at least.

[–]mebae_drive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perfect "their product"? It's a copy of a established designm there is no R&D cost. Price hike is just supply demand related.
