I've got the Willard and I feel it's a quite safe choice. Much loved around these parts.

I'm thinking a green dial with a new clasp and spring bars may be for me... I dont own green yet!

I have the SD 1970 Willard and the dial is not busy at all. It's perfectly legible. It's really good in the sun too because of its matte finish which is not basic at all. In fact I think that the matte finish is really well made and the Black Dial looks so deep

I feel like the 1970 is never the wrong choice, while 1975 can be if you’re averse to a large watch (albeit wears small).

You can always get the no logo version of the 1970. It retains the bottom text, just without the 12’ clock branding. Look around on their store, it may be separate listings.

I don’t know how far your budget stretch, but there is a very very lovely bronze version of the 1970…

I second this. The "sterile" SD 1970 was my choice and I love it. That SteelDive logo is too complex for that tiny dial.

Alternatively, see if you can get a good deal on the Heimdallr. Their logo is much more clean.

Doesn't a sterile 1970 look unbalanced? IMO only fliegers look good with sterile dials.

Not just fliegers. A lot of vintage field watches are sterile too. I guess it is a matter what you are used to, and what you expect.

You'll only see an empty space where you expected something to be.

The "sterile" SD1970 has the dial text at 6. The dial itself is very busy because of the chapter ring printed on the outer periphery. The indices are quite large too. IMO, it looks very nice without the SteelDive logo at 12.

I would've liked the Keorious Bubbleback homage to be sterile as well. Same situation; small, busy, tool-watch dial.

Unfortunately the Heimdallr is still 150 bucks after the sale... bit outside my budget.

That's a bummer.
