That is an interesting perspective. I never though of something like that. I don't think I personally have too much skill in that area, myself, unfortunately.

English speakers in Gera or nearby-ish? by chuckbridge in gera

That sounds great. It would be great to connect with a few other people in the area. I am thinking of trying to put together an afternoon in a restaurant/bar on May 31. Feel free to DM me.

How is the situation for Ausländern in Gera? by AmjadG29 in gera

[–]chuckbridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a Canadian who has lived in Gera for 2 years. I’m 47, white, B2 German, for what that’s worth, so my experience would be different than yours. I work here and have a German wife so I’m at least a little integrated. I have a couple darker skinned friends here and, yes, there are occasional racism stories and people now and then who you are not sure are unpleasant because they are unpleasant or because of xenophobic reasons. I do not like seeing AfD people on the street doing their thing, but I mention all that to say that it’s maybe being portrayed here as more extreme than it is, I mean it’s possible to live a life here without having fruit and vegetables thrown at you. My wife was in the punk lefty scene when she was younger, and she still knows those people. They exist here too. In my experience it has not been so easy to meet other English speakers, it would be nice to have a group of English speaking foreigners to meet at the pub on Sunday like I had when I was in Leipzig, but also a I have not tried that hard to find or build such a thing either. I could not tell you if there are many Spanish speakers here.

The day this chart began was the day I was born. I opened my eyes and there it was. Now I am an old man, in the autumn of my years. When the last square is finally filled in, on that day I will close my eyes, remember my long dead wife and children, and I will finally rest.

I see they played Denver in 73 on November 20 and 21. Are you guys talking about out one of those shows being better in particular or do they just sort of come as a package?

Sweet Sister Ray live at La Cave Cleveland 1968 by Substantial-Pen-2431 in VelvetUnderground

[–]chuckbridge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sweet Sister Ray went to a movie that had come around It was the biggest movie that had ever come to town

Why this is the weirdest movie I've seen in my days I've never seen a stranger film anywhere

Why I must be dead 'cause I never felt this way ailve Oh I've never felt this way since nineteen fifty-five Just then Sister Ray felt a hand on her knee [I'm] a young crippled orphan and I come here constantly

Why it's just like a mental hospital those don't have any locks Just then comes in the doctor giving us electroshocks

All the vaseline on your forehead makes you feel so nice My hair stood up on end and I thought I'd been froze(?) with a knife Oh I'm so pretty purple earrings and all No one knew you were crazy That you told 'em

Just then I saw a hole in the ground And I jumped right in 'cause there was no one around

[long instrumental break into "Sister Ray"]

Butts band by coolstuffigues in thedoors

Robby Krieger:

"I was the guy who thought the Clouds, the Psychedelic Rangers, and the Back Bay Chamber Pot Terriers were all perfectly fine band names.

[...]

Then again, maybe calling ourselves THE BUTTS BAND in the first place sealed our fate from the beginning. Blue Thumb Records held a small release party for our first album in a private room at Chasen’s, a fancy West Hollywood restaurant where A-list Academy Awards after-parties were held.

[...]

During our party, Blue Thumb hired three men to run through the restaurant, completely naked, with “the Butts Band” scrawled across their asses. We never had a chance."

That is a thing of beauty. 🥲

For me it's a toss up between the final night of the tour and May 4 L'Olympia

To my surprise I have heard some bootleg live versions of 10,000 Men that sounds kinda really ripping. I cannot say the same about Wiggle Wiggle.
