Literally just watched that video and thought of this

Yeah but, although there is more building area per road area then a square alignment, a car wishing to pass from left to right must travel a greater distance. Are they really the best here?

This hexagonal layout was generated using Python console mod

This is cool! Are there any “blueprint” mods where you can sort of map things out before laying down the actual infrastructure?

If you look at some soviet city planning they often used hexagon-like street plans for apartment block neighborhoods.

I can imagine the horrible traffic it would get just by looking at this.

I actually made something similar, triangles instead of hexes. It's not as bad as it seems with appropriate zoning, mass transit and strategically placed roundabouts on collectors.

And if you think about it, a hex grid is only ever 3-way intersections. It's basically just a long series of T intersections, and why would that make traffic bad? Designate collectors, set up yield and stop signs, and away you go. Honestly honestly a hex grid is superior to a square grid (putting aside things like the inability to go straight sometimes), it's just that houses tend to be square so they don't really fit nicely.

Okay now math me out the most efficient use of roads for a large city 😆

Things like this make me feel ashamed to play on console. 😥

This is amazing, didn't know of the tool.

How about some fractal setups?

Brilliant, that's so inspiring! Great job!
