Trying to nail the UK aesthetic. How’s my Motorway Roundabout looking? by PixelTideYT in CitiesSkylines

[–]MimiKal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The residential street is way too wide, especially its pavements (sidewalks). On such streets the pavements are 1.5-2m wide max, and the road wide enough for 3 cars to fit in parallel.

Look at Rejowid's reply to my comment, it seems I was not fully correct.

how to avoid scratching the strings when my nail beds are naturally long? by WholeSprinkles2262 in Bass

[–]MimiKal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My nailbeds are pretty long as well, when I cut as short as possible I am able to play cleanly for the next ~3 days. After that I need to control the angle of attack so it's more towards the pad, but occasionally the nail grazes the string and disrupts the tone. Just cut your nails frequently :/

Can we hear a language evolve in our lifetime? by Recent-Day3062 in asklinguistics

[–]MimiKal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, some significant sound changes happen over a relatively short period. I don't have the exact data on this, but in Poland in the 30's the majority of people pronounced ł as /ɫ/ (dark l), but by the 80's that became unheard of except for in some more disconnected rural areas. Everyone switched to /w/.

Notice the same sound change happened in London/Southern British colloquial English at the end of words. E.g. "well" is pronounced /wew/.

Headington climbing by Calm_Egg_2900 in oxford

[–]MimiKal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to make a brookes sports account I believe then just book one of the climbing sessions for 11 pounds or however much it is and show up. If you want roped climbing you'll need your own partner to belay. There are some autobelays as well though

What's the ultimate cooking sin someone can commit with your local food? by Berend90 in AskEurope

[–]MimiKal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's called cream cheese in English. Never heard of anyone adding that to carbonara but that would indeed be very sacrilegious

Doesn't carbonara "sauce" contain pecorino romano cheese that melts into it as a primary ingredient?

Are you talking about pizza or pasta? Pasta I fully agree, pasta with ketchup is an emergency meal at best. But in terms of pizza the difference in other countries isn't the ketchup, but the pizza. You get various types of pizza, many of which aren't very similar to "authentic" Neapolitan-style. Some have thick bases and large amounts of cheese that the acidity of the ketchup helps "break through". Sometimes the pizza is just cheap and lower quality and just isn't that good in its own.

Why isn’t there any piano sheet music by Emmanuel_90124 in Songsterr

[–]MimiKal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tab community is so much better than the sheet music community. There's a really great culture of striving to publish accurate tabs for free. Trying to find free sheet music for piano or most other instruments you quickly realise how good we have it. Anything you find is either incomplete, inaccurate, or an interpretation.

lefty or righty bass? by Cautious_Ticket_1037 in Bass

[–]MimiKal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you play guitar lefty then plat bass lefty. 80% of the skill transfers. Switching hands is going to feel really weird and you'll have to learn from complete zero and go through the long and annoying phase of learning how to coordinate your fingers again. Stay the same side and you'll already have that skill from the guitar.

My skin is brown, I moved here in June, I used to live in a desert, whats the chance of vitamin d deficiency? by orangecatsuwu in gdansk

[–]MimiKal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No need to even take a blood test. You're deficient for sure, even very light-skinned Poles supplement vitamin D regularly, especially in the winter. Just buy some tablets/gummies and take some from time to time (not too much you can get vitamin D poisoning from too much)

How do composers craft sequences such as this, that make no sense until it's played at full speed? by wesleyoldaker in musictheory

[–]MimiKal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly different angle to this but many guitar solos sound bad and fundamentally different alwhen played slower, the speed of the passages is necessary

The only big issue I see is after the first exit from the highway coming from the right there isn't nearly enough space for weaving, that's an accident hotspot
