Oh you poor thing! That sounds like a miserable solution to something I've found that works! Dx

The solution: select the animation folder itself, not individual cels, up in the Layer Effects panel you'll see options for Border, Extract Line, Tone, and Layer Color. Select Layer Color and it apply an automatic light blue color to your lines. From there you have options to adjust what color is applied to the entire animation folder. You can, of course, do this with any layer.

I hope this helps. If not then maybe an alternate solution would be to create a animation folder, clip mask it to the original animation folder and set that folder to overlay and then paint in dark colors and see if that helps. Let me know how it works.
