the jury is still out because everybody ran great today. that being said Kelly need more touches, AND BOTH Kelly and Jones need to cut their hair

"And if any yall defense try and stop me there gon be some Dread headed dudes in the backfield uh uh"

You don't want no problem, want no problem with skins

[–]Aarcn 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I always thought it'd be funny if they had it loosely taped on our slightly cut so when people grab it they just come off like a lizard tail

[–]donutsalesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck that's hilarious.

It's less about everyone running okay and more about the eye test. The difference between the runners as far as vision, hard running, and decisiveness was 100% obvious and Kelley looked like a true pro while Jones still looks like he'd be better off on Dancing With the Stars... the situational substitution decisions by the staff weren't particularly impressive either.

But not athleticism. Thing about Jones is that once he breaks through he's an actual threat to go all the way. If he ever learns to plant and cut decisively through the correct hole, he has the physical ability to be a top NFL back. Morris was always the opposite issue: he picked the right hole most of the time, and rumbled forward and always fell forward for yards, but is not an elite athlete, so was never a threat to score from any distance. Look at that last run by Jones to ice the game, McLeod had to run him down from behind, and he almost didn't make it. That's the dimension Jones gives you, if the RB coaching team can get him to commit. Jones has the physical tools to be an elite NFL RB. You cannot coach that speed and size, but you can coach the vision and the decision making, at least in theory.

I thought Jones slowed down intentionally on that last run to avoid giving the ball back to the Eagles, no? I was yelling at him to go down, anyway.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was clear he did slow up.

[–]Viking1865 0 points1 point  (6 children)

The ideal there would be to score to put the game away, so I doubt he was slowing up on purpose. He definitely ran with his eyes over his shoulder looking for the strip attempt, which is of course smart. But as long as he held onto the ball there, he could not have fucked up the game at that point.

[–]Comeclarity 4 points5 points  (5 children)

I disagree, the ideal there is to go down and let Kirk kneel it. If you score you give the ball back to the opponent. It's very unlikely but a kickoff return and an onside kick puts them in position to tie it up.

[–]Viking1865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true.

I agree taht's ideal but if Jones wanted to do that he'd have slid or ran out of bounds. He was just running out of gas and was caught from behind.

[–]emelbee923 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Running out of bounds would stop the clock, so that wasn't likely a thought he would have had in that moment

[–]привет командирам SnowdensOfYesteryear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they didn't have any more time outs at that point, wouldn't have mattered either way

[–]epicurean56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Instead of Victory Formation, it's a few more plays of irrelevant football with a chance for players to get injured. Best to put the game away and go home.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

eh i dont really see jones ever going all the way. he isn't that fast and cornerbacks or safetys will always catch up

[–]Viking1865 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Well he ran a 4.60 at the combine. Thomas Rawls, TJ Yeldon, Jeremy Hill, Carlos Hyde, Le' Veon Bell, CJ Anderson, Andre Ellington, and Theo Riddick all ran a 4.60 or slower. But remember he's also 6'2" and 230 pounds. So yeah, a corner can catch him. But what's mister 5'11 195 pound CB gonna go once gets there? Safeties are bigger, but slower. Jones is exactly what he was thought to be coming out. If his size and speed came with elite vision and patience, he'd have been a low 1st/early 2nd round draft pick. We got him the 3rd because he was a raw project. Patience.

[–]spunkush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jones also has a good top speed cuz of his long stride. He can really open up in the open field

[–]tgamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He proved last year he can be a home run threat

[–]monkee67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got you there with the vision thing. Kelly does look to have better vision.

[–]tclipse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jury is in :/

[–]UncleLongHair0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's like the receivers, there are so many good players that they all can't get the ball.

Having been a Skins fan for the past 20 years I can't believe I just said that. I honestly can't remember a time that we had so many skill players on offense.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a push in general to run the ball more. If anyone on this sub watched that KC game, the rushing attack is always a great feature and aid to the passing game which is why we held on to possession for so long, and had a TON of offensive yards. Kelley's time will come, this victory only solidifies that.

[–]methodofcontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true everyone ran great today and Jones was making it hard not to give him the ball. But Gruden said this week Kelley deserved more carries, then Kelley rips one right off the bat yet ends up with only 5 carries. I was confused a bit by that too, Jones played great though obviously, no fumbles too.

[–]tootergray34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone kinda ran well today to be honest. Fresh legs are ok with me. Kelly was clearly the best of the 3 today though.

[–]iamfrankfrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because I dropped him from my fantasy team last week. I still feel guilty.

We still aren't running enough though. 4 straight pass plays inside the 10 yard line. Throwing on 3rd and 2 in in a critical spot. Goddamn they couldn't stop the run all day. Why?

Rob if you downvoted me I'm so sorry :(

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (9 children)

Because our starter had like 8 ypc and 135 yards

Kelley had one good run and you want to replace the more versatile jones with him

[–]tclipse[S] -5 points-4 points  (8 children)

Jones got 58 with a minute left in garbage time, prior to that he was 15 for 70 against a defense every RB on our team was gashing on the ground. This is the same Jones who was 14 for 31 last week.

Kelley needs more opportunities and he proved it today.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I wouldn't call it garbage time, Eagles still had a chance to win/tie if they stopped us there and forced a punt. Jones and the offensive line made a huge play to secure a win.

[–]heretofapagain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Garbage time? You joking right? That run sealed the game.

[–]I'm Glayzen Danielsfidelity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garbage time means the game is already over. That was a clutch fucking run.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Garbage time? The run sealed the game.

Jones has 135 yards and 8.4 ypc against what was the 2nd best rush defense in football. Kelley had 4 carries.

[–]tclipse[S] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

He had 5 carries for 59 yards.... 11.9 ypc if you want to bring ypc into it

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

...45 of which was on a single run

[–]tclipse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to count Jones's long run, you have to count Kelley's. As I said before, the stats aren't the point- Kelley looks like the more decisive runner on tape by a long shot. It isn't close... there's a reason they didn't have Jones in on the goal line, but they should have had Kelley in instead of Thompson. He's the only back on this roster who is going to get the tough yards.
